I flaired this books as it is from a new biography. They were clearly lovers, so we can add Arden to LGB history. I love all the details about Marbury EXCEPT the focus on her weight and looks--terrible shite rag Dailymail. But this may be the most lesbi-onic thing every written:

Marbury had expressed hopes that it might be turned into a charitable vacation site for women workers - to give them a rural respite from the city.

This is still a thing to this day! EB was an early proponent of the lesbian back to nature/commune movement! Yay for her and her brilliant mind/wit!

To be a fly on the wall at their parties...

Lmao, true to the title, there was a shit-ton of mentioning how fat Marbury dared to be. 😁 Could be wrong but generally there isn’t such a hyperfocus for the many fat men, especially in that time period who had the honor of being seen and sturdy and solid rather than morbidly obese.

while all the quotes legitimate how witty and intelligent she is. This is the story of my life in a way. I always cared more about being smart, dynamic and funny than thin, even though I have been fat-shamed all my life despite being the US average size and physically active my whole life. I don't even own a car; I get around by bike/foot. Then the other day I posted something about not having any experience with toxic relationships (men or women) and someone responded that I must be more attractive or something and it took me aback. No; its bc interesting, dynamic people are drawn to interesting dynamic people. Smart people are attracted to smart people. I think this article is a testament to this. EB had lots of love in her life bc she was witty and persuasive and knowledgeable--and it sounds like she didn't take any shit. I seriously cannot think of any thing sexier than these qualities. Reminds me of Eleanor Roosevelt and her lover.

On the other hand, think about Weinstein. Everyone was like oh no, he is not a rapist blah blah but he had a notoriously AWFUL personality AND looked like a fat ogre under the bridge. He is hideous on every level, yet god forbid they talked about his girth in all the articles about him.

I think the other side of the coin; the good looking men cannot be rapists trope. God I hate that one.

I’ve been fat shamed for much of my life, not always obese but always something to critique, always something vulgar about my body for someone to judge, and focused on growing my knowledge and finding humor and peace and interests outside of the societal expectations for what women should provide and live in.

But still haven’t been very lucky, met a lot of toxic, abusive, violent people, experienced violence and manipulation and ostracizing. I have yet to really find people in my life I can lean on. All kinds of people have all kinds of experience. Unfortunately the world isn’t just, you don’t necessarily get back what you put in. Some people have to put in more effort just to get less than another. Some don’t realize how much luck plays into their connections, or fate. Whatever.

I just read a duel biography of Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein, which talked a lot about Marbury’s and Arden’s relationship too! (The book is War Paint btw, and it was wonderful, so fun and interesting to read)

I mean, that headline doesn’t really transports me but good for them.
