Betty White was a cultural darling, having spanned 7 decades of television and winning multiple Emmy awards and even more nominations.
White also was an advocate for civil rights. Her own talk/entertainment show was canceled because she refused to stop allowing a man of African descent to perform.
She also was a WWII vet of the American women’s sector, an avid animal lover, and an overall national treasure.
Betty white, May you Rest In Peace.
I love her so much. It feels like we lost a legend today, an icon for girls and women everywhere showing us life doesn't end at 40. Rest in peace to a queen <3
I feel like I lost my grandmother all over again…I feel like she reminded me of her a lot because she was always so witty and had a lot of fire to her soul.
I feel the same way. We used to watch the Golden Girls when I was little, and Betty was the last of them. My grandma died in an accident last year, and now with Betty dying I really feel like this is the end of all of my interactions with her (my grandma, I mean).
Betty was truly a queen. RIP.
Just wanted to say I’m sorry. I lost my grandmother in an accident, too. She was in her 80s and would be sick if she saw the state of the world today. I’ll probably never be as close to anyone ever again, though.
We both grew up hating being girls. When she was little, her brothers convinced her that if she laid on a certain rock and wished hard enough, she’d turn into a boy. She spent days on that rock.
Nowadays she and I would’ve been transed for sure.
But the actress who reminds me of her is actually Angela Lansbury. She looks kind of like her, and my grandma loved reading mysteries, so I made a weird connection there.
I know you probably didn’t want to read all that, but in my own way, I’m still grieving more than a decade on.
Thanks for sharing your story. Also, Angela is still alive and kickin’ at 96!
I’m so sorry to hear about your grandma. I had also lost mine last year, but due to a terminal illness that her body could no longer fight off.
I saw a lot of my grandmother in Betty white after I lost her. I’ve also always felt a kinship with Betty White because she was a woman I only hope to become: acerbic, successful, and kind.
A life lived so well and for so long. She truly made the most of her time here. Should we all be so lucky!
😢 I loved her so much on golden girls when i was little.
I did too! 😭
Golden girls is still one of my favorite comfort shows to watch
2021 just had to sneak in one more death, as if Beverly Cleary, Stephen Sondheim, and bell hooks weren't enough. Janet Malcolm. Joan Didion. Eric Carle. Come on.
And Cloris Leachman and EO Wilson 😣😭
Oh gosh when Eric Carle died, that crushed me too.
Betty White however hits so hard because I felt like she was a grandmother figure for me via the TV. She didn’t take crap from anyone. Not her employers, not the producers, not society, no one. She was strong minded and is what a fulfilled Capricorn looks like: achieved the loftiest goals in their respective field, because she was just that awesome. And she was Betty White.
I really loved her. Grew up watching her own the Mary Tyler Moore show. Watch her rift with Carol Burnett and Vickie Lawrence when they would do Mama skits. Loved her in Golden Girls. She was just young at heart.
Quite frankly I was shocked to hear the news.
I am too.
The last month, she’s been trending off and on and each time my heart would drop that it was saying she died…and now it’s real. I can’t believe she’s gone.
This is one of those they people are going to take to heart.
Chris Cornell fans, are still in thrall to a low level amount of grief in a corner of their minds
I used to watch Golden Girls all the time with my late grandmother. Truly some of my happiest memories. RIP to a great one.
I was just talking to my coworker on how she was going to live forever.
Betty is icon. She was so many things before it was cool.
In a way, she will live forever, in our hearts and in our memories with her kindness, badassery, and humor.
as if 2021 hadn't brought on enough bullshit. In the last few years I always dreaded reading her name in the headlines because I always feared it might tell me she died. Today is that day...and honestly it hurts a little bit because with her death, the last one of our golden girls died. And golden girls brought me so much joy as a child and as a woman. I grew up watching them and they influenced me to become the woman I'm today. RIP
Most of my humor and who I am today comes from the influence of a select few shows.
The golden girls was one of them. I may have grown up to be more like a mix of Dorothy and Sophia, but the kindness that White’s character Rose displayed, stuck with me all the same. I’ll miss her dearly.
NOOOOOOO
Opened Ovarit and that's the first thing I said too :( R.I.P. Betty White.
“Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.”
She didn’t really say that.

Thank you for your fact-checking service!! Betty was too big an icon to need made-up quotes ❤️
Lol did she really say that that. 😆

Love her so much!
