Laverne Cox will star in literally any role offered to him. He just wants to be relevant
Sounds perfect for him.
This is almost as good as watching Angelica Ross on American Horror Story. First he played an unethical, predatory psychologist experimenting on vulnerable humans. Then his role was a chemist pushing a drug that turns people into violent, bloodthirsty creatures with no higher intellect (also stole a baby). Last role was a human/alien hybrid forcibly impregnating people then stealing their children.
Cox and Ross are both insufferable, but whoever is casting them in these roles looks awfully terfy to me.
I never thought I’d find myself almost gleeful at a post about Laverne Cox being in a movie and yet, here we are.
.....BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. these freaks are never happy. like what? your boy is a star! aren't you so happy transwomen have representation now? even tho you claim to be women no different than cis but someone cis women can't represent you in film so you need to a) make female characters trans or b) need to cast men in dresses in even the "cis" women roles, even tho WE can't play YOU in movies (See Scarlet Johanson).
so now transwomen are playing transwomen and they're mad bc they put him in a role that he can obviously relate to? I'm confused on why this thing is upset tbh.
I dont think Dr Cable, the villain, was originally a transwoman in the books
well by the way they're talking, it's offensive to them bc he is playing this character as a trans woman - if the creators explicitly said "we're making Dr Cable a transwoman" then I almost get their frustration, stupid as it is. but by all accounts he's just stealing another cis woman role - isn't this a victory? I really fucking hate them, nothing is ever good enough, literally ever.
LOL This is actually perfect! Laverne Cocks finally found a film in which he's perfectly cast! 🤣
And the part about the cosmetic surgery on minors fucking up their brain to make them easier to control is such a good allegory for the trans movement that i cannot believe nobody caught on to it before they filmed it.
Without knowing anything about this story beyond what is summarized by the OP, I can infer that the moral of the story is that self-acceptance is the path to true beauty.
This lesson is one of the most common themes in folklore. It is wisdom that has been passed down so many generations it should be instinctual to us now. And yet it’s not, amazingly enough. A generation of young people have somehow concluded the real heroes are the ones who makes their happiness contingent on how others perceive them.
I want to watch this as well.
They’re dystopian novels more than anything. Fighting against the system, etc.
I will say what I always say when Mr. Cox is mentioned — how is he still getting work? No studio or directors would keep giving an actual woman who seems to tank in every subsequent role all these chances.
My kids read this series years ago and they were all right, but even if there is now a competing subtext, it’s unlikely to be seized upon by trans sympathizers or most normies. I wonder how many people will watch it.
It’s Netflix? We’ll never know.
Laverne Cocks' career should have tanked when he openly simped for Luis Morales (aka Sinthea Chyna Blast) and begged for him to be sent to Lady Jail. Cocks shed tears for Morales despite the fact that he was in jail for raping a 12 year old Black girl to death and setting the girl's body on fire to finish her off.
And that's not even getting into the other heinous shit he's said about Black women
Bro claims to be a Black lady despite clearly HATING Black females with a firey passion. Its so bizarre and creepy
Jesus thank you for telling me. Cocks really is dangerous as well as stupid and self-interested.
Uglies should have been made in like 2012 when that shit was popular. after Hunger Games, everyone realized how dystopian of a society we actually fucking live in and frankly it doesnt seem like ppl wanna spend their enterainment time there.
I didn't think anything could make me want to see a movie with Laverne Cox in it, but here we are! Pumped now. Thanks for the unintentionally glowing recommendation, NorCal-Frances: Woman (she/her)!
...Cox apparently doesn't seem to recognize that the story as presented can be seen as an anti-trans allegory
Dude, Cox just wants to get paid. If it takes navigating a bit of cognitive dissonance or convenient ignorance to get the meager work Hollywood has to throw his way, he will. Why do you think Cox is less of the 'screw you I got mine' variety than any other man?
If there was intentional casting on behalf of the creators, I applaud them for it because this sounds spot on. And a double congrats for pulling one over on the Netflix woke mob.
Mr Cocks doesn't seem very bright. So I doubt he noticed the irony in this part.
This is literally a Twilight Zone episode: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_12_Looks_Just_Like_You
The culture industry doesn't produce anything new anymore. They just do things like add a trans character.
Wow I had no idea they finally made it into a movie! I loved those books when I was around 13, should do a re-read.. we don’t have Netflix so probably won’t watch it soon, but that role sounds perfect for Laverne Cox, good for him
Oh wow! I might watch this haha
I tend to avoid cox’s acting as I don’t think it’s great, but sometimes he shows up in things worth watching
This is hilarious! I might see if I can get the books from the library.
Here's a link to the interview the posts mentions.
Here’s a quote from LC:
…I’ve always wanted to play a character like Dr. Cable. She is, I mean, some people might call her the villain, and there is something villainous about her, but I think she’s way more complicated than that. And so this character is a dream. The world is a dream.”
This dude is so shallow and narcissistic he can’t even convincingly pretend at being deep. Gushing at being cast as a powerful woman is all they can get out of him. No wonder he walked into this self-own!
"This woman who carves up and lobotomizes children is so complicated and DEEP, y'all"
Not surprised to hear this from a dude who simps for convicted rapists and killers
Lol, saying there is “something villainous” about a character that pulls off a human rights atrocity that obscenely evil is actually cracking me up.
Yes, Laverne, you have correctly identified who the antagonist is in this production. “Some people” would label this character the villain, because that is what this character is. Very astute observations for us to chew on here.
I was booting up Shameless last night and the preview for Uglies hit me upon opening the Netflix app. My husband went “oh, it’s your favorite actor!” And I laughed out loud when I saw it was Cocks, and the role he was apparently playing. Literally telling a roomful of eager teens how awesome it is to change everything about yourself via plastic surgery, as he so obviously has. 😂
It’s casting on the same level as Tigress in A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (Hunter Schafer.) While somewhat more sympathetic, Tigress also eventually looks WEIRD and ruined by all her surgeries. These are sort of ideal roles for people who, um, look weird and ruined by all their surgeries.
Bahahah I'm willing to bet large sums of money your husband has heard many heartfelt, lengthy rants about Cox/this topic :D
please note that her own cousin says she "is no great beauty". Tigris was always an ugly woman. I actually didn't mind Schaffer so much in the role as he does look like the older actress playing the role in Mockingjay part 2. he also looks like he could be related to Tom Blyth aka Coriolanus. I wouldnt have much of a problem with it if trans wasn't the plague that it is, infecting and rotting women's rights from within our own spaces and opportunities. but they are, and he has said some FUCKED UP SHIT about women, and so I think frankly he should never work again but that's just me. I can admit he has minor talent but honestly Cocks? no. he does not.
Thank you for sharing that tidbit about Tigris' physical appearance. I wanted to boycott the movie but ended up watching it anyway because I love the original Hunger Games series. I didn't like Hunter's performance, though the ugly woman description is very fitting. I told my husband there's a trans-identified actor in the movie but didn't give him any hints as to who it was, and he clocked Hunter immediately. Even though Hunter may look like he could be related to Snow, I still can't get behind any TIMs cast as woman when a pitiful 35% of speaking roles belong in women in film. It used to be 37% so we're moving backwards and giving those roles to men certainly won't help.
