If we can't talk about biological sex, what makes a trans"woman" trans? Ask them this and their heads will explode.

RNPhalaropeOctober 13, 2024

These people are just insane.

MignonetteOctober 12, 2024

I think we've reached the point where it would be far easier - and less time consuming - to just list what isn't considered transphobia (yet).

a_shrubNon Trinary (!3/¬3)October 12, 2024

Making that list would be transphobic!!! 😡

NOOctober 12, 2024(Edited October 12, 2024)

Lists in general are trsnsphobic because they sometime don't include trans people.

TrappedInACarOctober 12, 2024

“Why won’t you debate me?” is transphobia? In any context? It’s getting more and more difficult not to commit a genocide by the day.

TheChaliceIsMightierDickPocket=/=VagOctober 12, 2024

Slur??

PumpkinSpiceVaginaOctober 12, 2024

It's a pretty odd definition of "slur", too. I think they mean it's a slur to refer to a brave and stunning transwoman as a "biological man" but is it still a slur if I say "this bathroom is only for biological women?" Maybe I am "reclaiming" it, if I use it for myself!

Also "nonbinary pals are valid": these people are so freaking juvenile with the "pals" crap, drives me nuts. But what does "valid" even mean to them, and especially in this context? What makes a person "valid"? If I claim I am an alien from the planet Raxxizzorgizx is that also "valid", or is there some sort of list of criteria somewhere I can use to determine my validity, perhaps a flowchart? Is there a committee somewhere who decides these things?

ProxyMusicBrysexualOctober 12, 2024(Edited October 12, 2024)

Slur??

Yes, the more extreme TRAs have been saying that "biological male/female" are slurs for years now. Today this is an orthodox view widely accepted as the gospel truth pretty much everywhere in Genderland by the high priests and all establishment authorities as well as by and rank-and-file foot soldiers.

From the GLAAD Media Reference Guide – 11th Edition:

TERM[S] TO AVOID:“born a man,” “born a woman,” “biologically male,” “biologically female,” “biological boy,” “biological girl,” “genetically male,” “genetically female”

Phrases like those above oversimplify a complex subject and are often used by anti-transgender activists to inaccurately imply that a trans person is not who they say they are. “Biological boy” is a term anti-trans activists often use to disregard and discredit transgender girls and deny them access to society as their authentic gender identity. As mentioned above, a person’s sex is determined by a number of factors – and a person’s biology does not determine a person’s gender identity.

The "as mentioned above" section says:

Sex at Birth

Infants are assigned a sex at birth, “male” or “female,” based on the appearance of their external anatomy, and an M or an F is written on the birth certificate. However, the development of the human body is a complex process, and sex is not solely determined by anatomy, nor is it strictly binary. As many as 1.7% of people are born with an intersex trait. (See In Focus: Intersex People) Furthermore, a person’s body can be changed through medical transition in ways that fundamentally alter the sex they were assigned at birth. (See transition below.)

The GLAAD media guide goes on to say:

BEST PRACTICE: These terms [referring to biological sex] should be avoided in favor of a person’s actual gender identity, for example: girl, woman, transgender girl, transgender woman, boy man, transgender boy, transgender man.

If there is a clear reason to refer to someone’s birth sex, the terms to use are: assigned male at birth, assigned female at birth, or designated male at birth, designated female at birth.

Avoid: “The school board dismissed the parents’ complaint that Imani, a transgender girl, was participating in school athletics with biological females.”

Best Practice: “The school board dismissed the parents’ complaint that Imani, a transgender girl, was participating in school athletics with cisgender girls.”

Avoid: “The story is about a teenager who transitions from male to female in high school.”

Best Practice: “The story is about a teenage trans girl who transitions in high school.”

In 2024, the International Olympic Committee set forthe new rules for media coverage of the Olympic Games in a documented called,PORTRAYAL GUIDELINES: GENDER-EQUAL, FAIR AND INCLUSIVE REPRESENTATION IN SPORT. On page 28, the IOC rulebook says:

PROBLEMATIC LANGUAGE

There are many common language difficulties when reporting on or writing about trans people and athletes with sex variations. Below are some of the most common missteps and harmful language practices to avoid.

TERMS TO AVOID: “born male”, “born female”, “biologically male”, “biologically female”, “genetically male”, “genetically female”, “male-to-female (MtF)”, “female-to-male” (FtM)

Use of phrases like those above can be dehumanising and inaccurate when used to describe transgender sportspeople and athletes with sex variations. A person’s sex category is not assigned based on genetics alone and aspects of a person’s biology can be altered when they pursue gender-affirming medical care.

INSTEAD USE: girl/boy, woman/man, transgender girl/boy, transgender woman/man, transgender person It is always preferable to emphasise a person's actual gender rather than potentially calling their identity into question by referring to the sex category that was registered on their original birth certificate. If there is a clear reason to refer to the categorya person was assigned at birth, the terms to use are: “assigned female at birth”, “assigned male at birth”, or “designated female at birth”, “designated male at birth”.

From Reddit:

saying “a biological male” is usually intended to indicate all cis men and transfeminine people, while it is usually unnecessary and with bad intentions to group these two very different groups. It’s not unlike the slurs tim/tif, “trans-identified male/female”. Some frustrated people are just happier when they can say man or male to a woman and vice versa. The concept isn’t even new, misgendering has always been a classical attempt to insult people.

The right winged conservative side uses “biological” to exclude trans identity or to lessen it. It is also used by Trans Excluding Radical Feminists for the same purpose. Not that it is exclusively used in those ways but it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Biological feels old fashioned and passé at best.

it's a direct attempt to misgender and invalidate trans people. instead of trans woman, bigots say biological male to make everything about our sex and trivialize our gender traits. They call cis women biological females because using the word "bIoLoGiCaL" makes them sound more valid. The whole point is to be rude and condescending and avoid calling us women. Calling us "male male maley mcmalemale" would be equally accurate and mature

Is the term 'Biological male' trans phobic?

Yes, it's offensive, and inaccurate. Biologist here. One's gendered traits are biological if they are acquired through biochemical processes. So, for example, if a trans woman got her secondary sex characteristics via hormone replacement therapy, she is biologically female.

Trans biologist here (as in I'm trans and am a genetic biologist, and I'm an expert in the biology involved in being trans) "biological male" when used to refer to trans women is exclusively transphobic.

There is no scientific basis with which to categorize trans people as "biological male or female."

I have a possible reason why it's transphobic. And that's not just because it's inaccurate for people who medically transition, and it's also not just because it's pretending like the brain and other parts of the body aren't biological.

It sexualizes us. It reduces biology and us to reproduction only. We're not seen as complex beings with varying biological traits, some that have nothing to do with sex, some that have gendered connotations but change, or some that are intersex traits

Is calling someone "biologically man/woman" transphobic?

It's normally used in an extremely ignorant way, which is transphobic yes.

However, you'll sometimes see it as shorthand for "which sex hormone(s) are you running", which is potentially problematic, but at least has some biological basis.

So given a trans man who's been taking testosterone, referring to him as "biologically male" is meaningful shorthand, referring to him as "biologically female " is just wrong and transphobic.

Yes. Usually its used as an insult or in a demeaning way to say that trans people are fake or just crossdressers. "But you're not a biological woman...." Or sometimes TERFS use " biological" instead of "cisgender" to refer to non-trans people, because they (incorrectly) think the word "cis" is a slur. Regardless of their intent though, its incorrect.

It’s even worse than that. It’s just doesn’t make sense because gender is something society made to classify what they saw when they witnessed that mostly there was a body with a V and a P.

We aren’t “biologically” a man or a woman, we are simply humans who can have multiples way of behaviors and those are the ones who will help us identify who we are ourselves and in the society

Its a terf dog whistle so yes.

If someone calls me a biological male, i'm knocking their fucking teeth out.

Oh make it stop! Please! They are batshit crazy. (No offense to bats intended.)

When will this ever end? I wonder about the "biologist". Is this just based on self-identification as a biologist? I think so.

aelloOctober 12, 2024

Biologist here.

🤭

One's gendered traits are biological if they are acquired through biochemical processes. So, for example, if a trans woman got her secondary sex characteristics via hormone replacement therapy,...

I thought breasts weren't gendered and men can have breats and vaginas and periods and give birth and women can have penises? Those can't both be gendered and non-gendered body parts. Also isn't gender an internal sense of self that has nothing to do with the physical body? Make it make sense

...she is biologically female.

What makes "her" trans, then?

gender is something society made to classify what they saw when they witnessed that mostly there was a body with a V and a P.

So if we're dissociating "man" and "woman" with biological sex, why continue to uphold those supposedly meaningless classifications?

Their arguments simply do not hold up to scrutiny and the worst thing is that NO ONE is allowed to scrutinize them, lest they be branded as bigots and cancelled.

FastWavesOctober 12, 2024

Use of any language aside from idiotic praise like "YOU ATE, GURL" is a slur and literally genocide!!

Hahahaha! Fuck them, they are so fragile!

If their identity depends on their ever-shifting rules, they need to buckle up buttercup, because the rest of us are not playing your game.
