My husband has said he doesn’t really understand why people say they’re nonbinary and when I explained to him why women often do it, it sounded “a little fantastical” to him and it just didn’t click.
Well, today at lunch (he’s work from home and has video calls all day) he tells me his work friend, let’s call her Tara, told him she’s now NB and goes by they. He was stunned, as he’s known her for years and she’s never said she wasn’t a woman. Since they know each other he felt comfortable probing a bit and asked how she came to this conclusion. She explained, “Oh, it’s just that all that I am doesn’t really fit neatly into the label woman. Or man, for that matter. So I’m nonbinary.” He wanted to ask why she couldn’t be all she was and a woman too, but didn’t think risking making a stink was wise so he let it go.
He asked me, “Are people just going by stereotypes now and think individuality is nonbinary?” I answered, “Yep.”
Bill Maher has always been strongly in favour of free speech and he's no fan of religion so it makes sense this ideology would bother him. I've been waiting for him to peak.
Oh he’s been peaked for years and is very vocal. It’s the just the first time it’s been viral.
Although I don’t agree with Mahr about some issues, he is the only high profile person who is not afraid to tell it like it is. The TRAs will go nuts and call him transphobic, but I don’t think he’s going to back off. For that, admire him.
Aside from JKR and Posie Parker. And Megan Murphy. And Julie Bindel. And Abigail Shrier. And Maya Forstater. And probably a hundred other women who are slipping my mind.
Except for Rowling, all those other people I’ve only heard of because I’m on Ovarit. Not the same level of fame as Maher.
Comments! There is a comment section! wow
The comments are all relatively sane, too! There are few people trying to push back with the "we were all just hiding this whole time" rhetoric, but even that's getting shot down. I think normies are, overall, tired of this stuff. (And I, personally, am tired of talking to potential dates only to find that she's got already got a man or has recently decided women are a fun experiment.)
The Twitter comments are about fifty-fifty (or were when I looked at them). Maher has tweeted about this, in terms of asking why so many teens transition in California and not in Ohio.
Many say that Ohio is conservative and harasses trans people so California figures are the correct ones. Others say that it is social contagion in California.
It could actually be a bit of both, with relatively "conservative" Ohio shaming them AND relatively "liberal" California generating them culturally, perhaps even taking in the one's who were shamed in Ohio. Just a thought.
And it's TQ+ that's rising as a "trend." LGB are being force-teamed into the TQ+. Sully's been on a few times, so I wonder if he'll be invited back to talk more about this. Or that guy who wrote in Newsweek about how he was raised in an evangelical family and how similar the TQ cult is to it. No one is born TQ. They're proselytizing.
"Bill Maher has started targeting trans youth. I feel no guilt or shame about saying that I hope Bill Maher dies a slow and agonizing death while people stand around him pointing and laughing." https://archive.ph/wTFpf
But I'm glad to see many people do agree with Bill
Several responding to Maher's tweet about this on Twitter posted that graph about being left-handed which shows an increase over time because left-handedness used to be actively discouraged and frowned on. But the rate of increase in that graph is from 4% to 12% over like fifty years. This is nothing compared to the rate of increase in presenting as trans for teenagers, especially teen girls. I think in England the rate for girls rose by 5000% over one decade.
Also, middle-aged men are transitioning (AGP), but very few middle-aged women are. If numbers are up because bigotry is less we should expect more equal rates in different demographic groups and we are not getting those.
yep, that's the "gotcha" that TRAs are using to take this down. I would personally like to see the stats of LGBs in liberal states from the last 60 years or so and then overlap with TQIA+ stats. I would bet that those graphs would look absolutely nothing like each other on a percentage basis and there would be no "gotcha" since we would only be using data from liberal states.
Plus left-handedness can be reliably observed by which hand a child naturally uses, doesn't just suddenly occur when you're a teenager, and doesn't require any medical intervention.
Yep, over 5300% increase in Tavistock GIDS referrals for girls. That's the equivalent of EVERYONE becoming left-handed TWICE over, or homosexuals going from 2-3% to well over 100% of the pop. Of course you could expect an increase, but a 2-4x increase, which is likely for many things becoming depicted, discussed, valorized, etc is VERY different from a 53 times increase.
It is giving my a whole weekend’s worth of life to read those comments, wow.
Where are you seeing comments? On Yahoo? I’m on an iPhone and I only see comments on the Deadline article and they’re mostly ridiculous and calling Maher a bigot. I want to feel uplifted too! I just spammed the hell out of the comments on Deadline with a bunch of replies which I doubt will be posted.
yahoo has comments enabled.
Weird because I can’t see it on my phone at all. I guess I’ll have to wait until I get to my desktop.
I wonder if Maher can now speak freely about "gender ideology" because of the new CEO of the giant media corporation that took over HBO etc. According to a recent article linked to recently on Ovarit, he sounds refreshingly not woke. HBO until now has been woke from head to tow, and on the "trans" bandwagon big time. Now the new big honcho is reportedly meeting with JKR. If that is true, he's a tough guy.
I also laughed in this clip how Donna Brazille, a big wig Democrat, was shaking her head all over the place. Like, "oh Bill, this is not funny...."
This is brilliant. Thanks for posting. And he showed a pic of Irreversible Damage! He got some great digs in (to ACLU too) and it is funny. Yay to gc Bill.
I hope Abigal Shrier or Kara Dansky (or both!) gets invited on Real Time to talk more about this! Oh, and if JKR went on to talk about her uncancellable uncancellation, the peakening would go through the roof. More of this please.
Great ideas to have Kara, Abigail and JKR on! Anyone know the dude to suggest it? We've talked about Kara before, but if he could get JKR on, what a coup! And now that the big daddy may be in talks with her, well, HBO would be promoting their connection. Yes! Crumble crumble, the wokey house of cards just crumbled a bit.
I tried googling "email a suggestion to Real Time with Bill Maher" but only turned up a form to request tickets to the show. My guess would be that the best mode of contact would be Twitter or other social media.
For women thinking this is his first time, he's been talking about it for years. Afaik, the earliest was him calling out tras complaining about the Vagina Monologues & Eve Ensler, calling it & her transphobic. That was even earlier than I thought: 2015.
Liked the episode, here on Youtube, other than the ball and chain marriage comment from a perpetually unmarried man, which disregards how much men benefit from marriage while women sacrifice, as usual.
But he did say he was joking so fine, fine, whatever. Boomer humor.
Share his clip as much as possible, it’s great. Get as many democrats and centrists to open their eyes to this and peak!
And the crowd roared. Everyone thinks that this stuff is crazy but they are too scared of speaking up. I'm guessing that a disco is dead moment is soon approaching.
We need to stop saying rise of LGBTQ. We aren't seeing entire friend groups coming out as gay. We aren't seeing lesbian lunch tables in high school. We are seeing TRANS and QUEER, both catergories which have become so broad as to become meaningless.
Totally. And don't forget "non-binary". I think that is the biggest category now, of young people "identifying".
Great point!!!! Being homosexual or bisexual isn’t a trend, but gender woo goo is and it hurts LGB to be associated with their whackadoo.
Can I hear an Amen? Maybe a thousand or two of 'em?
Maher gets paid how many (tens of?) millions and can't bother himself to read even one lousy GC post explaining that TQI+^%$#@@ have nothing to do with LGB?
I've seen evidence that kids identifying as LGB (or perhaps "pan" in place of B) is on the rise, too. It doesn't seem to be about comfort coming out, either--it often seems to be apparently straight-leaning kids. I think identifying as a lesbian, for example, might provide young girls with the same benefits that identifying as trans does, i.e. signaling a disinterest in boys, probably because they aren't ready for sex/relationships, the porn-addled boys they know are undateable, they're trying to opt out of being ogled, etc.
