I support women's only spaces, including bathrooms, for the reasons you all already know.
But when it came to men's bathrooms, I always thought I'd be OK with women in there, because they're not really a threat. And I still believe that - women are not a threat to men in men's bathrooms.
However, I was at a woke gay bar recently with a gender neutral bathroom. It was a large room with urinals on one side, and closed off toilets on the other side.
There was a huge line filling up the room, waiting to get into the closed off toilets, but all the urinals were free. I was waiting in line and really had to pee.
Normally, I avoid urinals because I think it's awkward being exposed like that. But when there's a line, I'll use the urinals.
This time, however, half the queue filling up the bathroom were women. 10+ women would be able to see me pee in the urinals. And I felt incredibly uncomfortable having to do it in front of women. If they were all male, I'd be OK.
Even if you take the threat of physical attacks and men being gross creeps out of the equation - single-sex bathrooms still make sense for both sexes. In our current reality, where men are also a threat to women statistically, it of course makes even more sense to keep female-only spaces than male ones.
When it comes to doing something that we do differently due to our sex or just getting undressed, really, it feels way more comfortable to do it with members of your sex.
