"We know that being forced to repeat lies is how every evil regime in the world flexes its power. There’s a reason the torture of Winston Smith in Nineteen Eighty-Four is followed quickly by O’Brien finally forcing him to lie about how many fingers the torturer holds up. Today, the lie about four fingers being five has been replaced by those who hold up a penis and force onlookers to say that it’s female."
Amen!
I was always full of glee at the line that never got old: ‘Got your mother in a whirl / She’s not sure if you’re a boy or a girl.’ We old people don’t look down on today’s trans antics because we’re uptight fuddy-duddies – we do so because we’re still reprobates. We find the idea of needing external validation for one’s identity pathetic.
Absolute 🔥🔥🔥. I was a teen in the early 2000s, not 70s, but we goth kids all felt the same way : we knew what we liked and shrugged if people found it weird/silly. It's tragic kids aren't encouraged to have that sort of resiliency anymore.
I've seen pairs of twice used tea bags with more charisma
Bindel is a wordsmith. :)
She is also right that these two child actors were children of privilege. To them saying "I'm traaans!" means heading to the top of the Oppression Olympics medal table. One thing I am quite glad about the new Potter series is that Radcliffe and Watson won't be the only Harry and Hermione.
Wordsmith indeed, but this is not Julie Bindel, it's Julie Burchill
Bindel was going to speak at a library in Nottingham and the TRAs got the council to cancel it.
She arrived and saw the protestors and went to speak to them, they didn’t know who she was and told her they were protesting Julie Burchill holding a talk.
They’re so often mistaken for each other, it’s a running joke between them.
There are an abundance of Julies and Julias to keep straight in this whole thing. Bindel and Beck and Burchill here...and then there's the odious Serano on the other side of it all.
To those of who are as old as Burchill and Bindel, or even older, there's no confusing British journalism's two outstanding Julie Bs.
Julie Burchill started her writing career as a brash 17-year-old firebrand covering rock 'n' roll for NME in the 1970s. When she moved on to other publications and began writing about politics, fashion, style, film and celebrities in the 1980s, she voiced many political opinions - such as support for Margaret Thatcher - that were anathema to three-years-younger Julie Bindel.
When Bindel was 17, she was a member of the Leeds Revolutionary Feminist Group, which was campaigning against pornography. Bindel's career in journalism has always focused on feminism and feminist causes, and her main beat has been male violence against women and girls.
Both Julie Bs have a great way with words, though. And neither one has ever minced her words. Brava to both of them.
Yeah, I was glad to see Julie Bindel interviewed in a documentary on the Yorkshire Ripper. Before then I had no idea how involved she'd been in the early take back the night events in response.
"I am quite glad about the new Potter series is that Radcliffe and Watson won't be the only Harry and Hermione."
Rather satisfying honestly specially with Watson whose entire "image" has revolved around being equated with Hermonie for so long.
I cannot fucking wait for the Harry Potter HBO series. You absolutely KNOW they’re going to get a much better cast, with much better skills, and it’s going to dethrone this idiot from the one major thing he coasts on.
This was such a refreshing article to read, thank you! I must add plonker to my vocabulary now.
I'm going to read 1984 as soon as I can get a copy. I see this quote everywhere: “The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."
It explains so well how the trans rights movement operates.
It's scary how similar trans ideology is too Big Bother
not really Blair (aka orwell) fought the fascists in the Spanish civil war, he got shot in the neck, he knew fascism first hand.
Practically any straight white male is chock full of privileged ignorance to some degree. The way he and other HP actors threw Rowling under the bus was so cowardly and ungrateful. Its safe to say they'd be nowhere near where they are now without her material.
They pretty much won the lottery. They added nothing to the movie that any other actor couldn’t have. They could have easily been swapped out.
To be honest, I don’t think the movies were that great renditions of the books. Lord of the Rings? Yes, most of those were great and brought out the real meaning in the books. The HP series was visually appealing and fun, but rode on the story. Most of the acting was stiff and feeling needed to be brought out by music and clever shots and CGI.
The majority of the actors, not just the children, acted as if they were attending an award show where they were due for an award. There wasn’t really capturing of the characters, it was as of each actor was showing themselves playing such characters, if that makes sense. They were attention grabbing, rather than drawing, and smug.
And I’m really thinking of the shit job Helena Bonham Carter did of Bellatrix LeStrange and pretty much all the child actors barring the girl who played Luna Lovegood and Draco Malfoy.
Agree to all this. Honestly I thought most of the movies were pretty cringe. Anything HBO does with the series will absolutely be better.
Can I come out and make an accusation? I’m beginning to wonder if Daniel Radcliffe is a groomer for more reasons than being an idiot.
I think he's in the closet, with one leg out wearing fishnets, waving it around.
Great article, especially the comparison to 1984.
Radcliffe said: ‘I always knew I was a boy because that was a thing I grew up knowing.’
You've got a cock and balls, mate. Can't believe I used to like this tosser.
Excellent article. Straight to the point, no sugarcoating. Thanks for sharing.
Discount Elijah Woods really should stop talking.
Elijah Wood can actually act.
