QuestionHow do you think my pride post was received?
Posted June 10, 2023 by [Deleted] in GenderCritical

I posted on social media a happy pride post yesterday. I posted a song that's not specific to pride, but is very empowering and promotes the message to love yourself as you are. Then I said that this was what pride meant to me, as a lesbian. And I wished people a happy pride.

I in no way posted this for validation from others. It was a short and sweet post that was to promote a positive message. But I have to be honest - I was sort of curious to see what sort of response I would get. So far I've had only a few likes. Most of my posts usually get about 30. I think the "loving yourself as you are" and mention of my being a lesbian may have triggered some people. 😅 Do you think I'm overthinking this, or do you think that it's true that maybe people found what I had to say objectionable? Do you have a good read for how my type of message would have been received?

This could very well just be me being on the defensive and assuming the worst in people because of my past experiences. At the end of the day I don't care about likes, but I am morbidly curious as to whether or not there is some social phenomena underlying the like pattern. It's interesting to me, what can I say?

For reference, some of the things said in the song are "I'm a confident woman", "if you're feeling confident follow me", "I'm a woman with a groove so to speak", "I thank my parents for making me this way", and then there's a line about preferring pants and loafers to skirts. The general sentiment of the song is to be confident in yourself however you are.

I run test posts and comments periodically, and the number of likes diminishes from my normal everyday posts. One comment got only one click, seriously, it was about the misogyny of drag.

I still do it, I keep it up, because someday someone who needs to know they are not alone will feel brave because of it. We need to let people know we are out here, so yep, please keep testing the waters.

Suspect it was vague enough that people didn't know what you were 'really' saying enough to be comfortable responding, even hitting the 'like' button, and that has nothing to do with what your post said but everything to do with the culture surrounding us right now. A lot of people, including staunchly pro-gay people, are utterly sick of Pride and what it's been hijacked to represent. A lot of the hijackers want explicitly 'yay trans' endorsements and are fearful of being caught liking tepid or ambiguous statements in case, say, it ends up being "TERF" messaging and they get eviscerated for guilt by association. And it was vague enough that people who may have accurately intuited your intent can't be sure that their read of it is the correct one enough to either 'agree' or attack.

I don't know. There is so many factors, when you posted it, what song, what facebook's algorithm likes. I doubt we will ever know why it didn't get as many likes as your other posts.

If I were on social media, and on your list, I'd 'like' it, and post my solidarity with you, sister. Your post meant something to someone, you may never have confirmation, but you've sewn seeds.

I hate what this has done to our community most of all, and identify with your username. Happy original recipe Pride, we are all too tired for a parade, so relax and love you for you; I am proud of you.

For your lesbian road trip play list: JJ

you had another thread about posting aggressive things on SM, and I was going to suggest this song, which is my favorite lesbian love song, and everybody loves Joan.

Have fun and make some great memories- friends are the best.

yeah, Tommy James and the Shondelles, but it doesn't matter when JJ sings it. It was my song with my late wife, so it has further lez bona fides.
