RantThe number of gay men defending porn is disturbing.
I mean this as a vent.
On Tumblr I saw a post by a gay man who was essentially encouraging Tumblr to lift it's ban on porn (for all the good that did) since Elon is working to make Twitter porn-free. I responded, and it wasn't what gay men wanted to hear.
One gay man left a snarky reply. "Gosh, I am sorry I exploit women by posting porn of myself on Twitter". This has been followed by others denying that gay men watching gay male porn exploits women in any way.
Surely this is not difficult to understand. The vast majority of the world is heterosexual. Men as a group, gay or not, hold power and privilege over women globally. So long as prostitution and pornography are legalized and exist as a system, women will be funneled into it and sexually exploited. Regardless, "I watch porn that focuses on the exploitation of boys and other gay men" is not a compelling argument to me.
Even posting pornography of oneself on Twitter, a platform in which the user base is aimed to be 13+, causes harm. Men utilize the culture and system of "amateur porn" to falsely post pictures of non-consenting women or other gay men claiming to be them. Men send porn of themselves and other men into the DMs of women, children, and sometimes gay men. Men post pornographic images of themselves on social media platforms understanding well enough that a 13 year old may see it. In addition to women and girls, men also kidnap and traffic boys across international borders to prostitute. Men blackmail same-sex men who are in the closet through pornography. Porn in and of itself influences people to gradually escalate from viewing "vanilla porn" to consuming hardcore, more directly violent porn. Gay men still pay money towards porn sites and drive the demand of porn itself, which regardless of what content they watch, drives the commercial sexual exploitation of women.
