Need Advice or SupportHelp - work toilets converted to gender neutral UK
Posted February 9, 2024 by bird in GenderCritical

I work for a small company that has just moved to new offices. Everything has been refurbished for our arrival.

The toilets are terribly decorated, but that's a whole other story.

There are two separate sets of toilets, each with a door from the hall.

The layout is: door from main hall, small passageway, second door, then room with two basins, then two floor-to-ceiling doors leading to two individual cubicles with a toilet in them. This is duplicated so each set of toilets is a mirror of the other.

When we moved in, one hallway door had the female symbol on the door, the other had the male symbol.

Yesterday they were both changed to WC. This means that both rooms, each containing two loos, that were single sex are now gender neutral.

This has been done, for "inclusion". All the directors are away, but two of them are married and their son is "non-binary" so I presume this has been done for his benefit.

I'm really, really uncomfortable with this. Not least because the loos are so dark and dingy, and now I have to worry about bumping into male coworkers in there.

Are there any UK laws that protect me in this situation?

We don't have an HR department. It's a flat structure and the directors have presumably OKed this/asked for this.

Correct pronoun use by the paper, and correct sexing by the police spokesperson!

And yet the sun stayed on its axis and kept spinning, day did not turn to night, the seas did not boil, nor the skies fall to earth, and nobody died as a result of sexed pronoun use We were told this wasn’t possible.
