Hi Ovarit,
In my very liberal location with very liberal friends all of them fully respect my GC views, and yet it is still lonely to be the only one who is this upset about the horrific things done to children, men in women's prisons, boys/men taking women's place in sports, etc. etc.
I've watched everyone grow tired of me complaining about it, and no matter how much I say no one else really seems to think it's a big deal.
It's just lonely sometimes. I think I need a break from it all so that I don't think about it so much but it's really hard. For one thing misogyny is just kind of everywhere. I didn't used to see it and now I can't unsee it and its heart breaking. And also I don't get many breaks in my schedule, but when I do I either open my phone to this site or to Twitter where I mainly follow GC and other feminist accounts.
Anyway, I am just feeling so lonely this morning after a dinner with friends that got a little awkward when I went off about stuff. I thought maybe some of you could relate or give me some advice to get my mind on other things for a bit. I have a major tendency to fixate and it can be detrimental at times.
I wish people could understand that we are in this liberal, wealthy bubble, but I'm the only one who didn't come from that background. More than one woman in my family has done prison time. These things aren't just hypothetical to me.
ETA: sometimes I apologize to friends for being over the top about this. And sometimes I just want to say "yes I'm mad about this, WHY AREN'T YOU?!"
Sorry
Men in dresses will never NOT be ridiculous and funny. Especially your pervy friend
And I don’t see the insult to women, though I do see your intent to do so
Putting on women’s clothing just highlights how uncouth, ungraceful, un-everything that men are as compared to women. Even Janet Reno, who they joked looked like a man, looked professional and capable in a dress
It’s why women look good in mens or women’s clothing
In Tina Fey's memoir, she talked about how SNL's tendency to do this took big parts away from the few female cast members they used to have. You could have a female cast member do an actually accurate and funny impression, and she'd lose out to the guy not even putting effort into it.
The thing is, I think it could be funny sometimes. But a lot of the time it just felt so sexist. And that's not even what he cares about.
I don't know, Ricky Gervais and Dave Chappelle seem to be doing just fine...
Would it be gauche to call him a “beta cuck”?
Lmaooo! 😃😍
This is fucking hilarious..you did a terrific job!
Let's spread it far and wide!!
If he was really sorry, he'd apologize to Janet Reno's family instead of groveling to a bunch of drag queens who were never the butt of the joke
Exactly. To be honest, I do think he was making fun of men in dresses as well as ugly women. I don't believe he harbours a special hatred towards women that he's acting on. I just don't think he really cares. Like most people, he believes on a deep, semi-conscious level, that men deserve more kindness, compassion and attention than men and are "more human." It isn't malice-based on his part, at least I don't think so. He just doesn't care enough about women as complete human beings for it to matter to him if it doesn't affect men he cares about and whose feelings he cares about.
