I just came across two bands today, both calling themselves Deadname (https://www.instagram.com/deadnameband/?hl=en and https://www.instagram.com/deadnamestheband/). I am in awe that this is actually a thing that exists. Way to be completely individualistic, only to have another band pick a similar name as you! I always find it funny when the transgender crowd try to seem all special and different, only to have others follow similarly.
But this brings up a certain topic near to my heart - Music, and how transgender ideology has slowly infiltrated it. We know they flourish in fandom spaces, so fandom music is no different. But bands like 100 gecs and Against Me! have always irked me in the way that they make the concept of being transgender so heavily involved in their music (usually listed as their inspiration for writing their songs, being a part of their musical journey or whatever).
Like, on what planet do we need the music genres 'Dysphoriawave' and 'HRTcore' ?!
I truly worry for the younger generations associating this with being punk rock or rebellious. Don't even get me started on the Jungle music genre and..shudders..Lolicore....
Is anyone else exhausted by the push from TIPs and TRAs to accept their way of thinking from every creative aspect there is? I know I really am.
I created this post so that we could all vent about our music woes, if we have any. Let me know if this post belongs elsewhere! I truly want to hear your opinions on this, since I know there's been issues with riot grrrl bands like Le Tigre being "problematic" and then backpeddling into TRA activism.
I really used to like Rainbow Kitten Surprise and then the lead singer came out as trans and killed the whole vibe for me - people in YouTube comments talking about how great his "feminine voice" is when he sounds the exact same.. it's stupid
Same! I knew they were going a direction I wasn't going to like when they released that song about identity with the drag queens in the video, but I was disgusted when Sam decided he was actually a woman. A real bummer because their older music is fantastic.
That's so unfair, ughhhhh. I hate how that band has been tainted for you.
Hopefully you've been able to find similar bands that you can enjoy now!
Bore-core and dickmusic isn’t exactly breaking any boundaries. Twisted Sister weren’t supposed to be taken seriously as a fashion statement.
I see this shite and I'm actually not mad anymore at how Vaporwave got split into Retrowave, Dreamwave, Outrun, Vaporsynth etc.
This is the first time I've heard of Outrun, actually 👀
I also like the lil weirdcore/traumacore music offshoots myself (hate the names, though).
These folks are obsessed with labels, what else is new. The over-politicization of media is infuriating.
Jungle is awesome, are you sure you're not confusing it with something else?
Oh, Jungle is great! I'm just saying that I've noticed the trans takeover of it and other genres lately (which suckkkkks).
Even when i was interested in industrial, everyone was against jungle. It's honestly kind of a rap-y scene even in the 90s.
I don't have insta, but i found a video on the band's facebook. This type of music always has something they are rebelling against, so i am not surprised.
Against Me sucks, so that's all I have to say. Punk is dead. In fact, Punk is a Deadname for Punk.
Is someone in 100 gecs trans? I didn’t know that, I only knew it was a pair of siblings. Not that I’m surprised at all, I just didn’t know.
I personally don’t have a huge issue listening to music made by TIPs or by people I don’t like, as long as it doesn’t really show too much in the music itself. I do listen to pre-trans Against Me! and I’m also pretty fond of Cavetown.
Unfortunately, Laura Les of 100 gecs is a TIM. I remember hearing the music and going ???? the whole time. It sounded SUPER off to me, lol. After that, I searched around online and finally figured out the 'female' vocalist was actually a man. It made total sense, honestly.
I get where you're coming from, too. I think that, if the TIPs aren't the main vocalists, it makes it easier to listen to the music. Otherwise my brain is trying to figure out the voice the entire time 🥴
Also, OMG, I had no idea about Cavetown! I really enjoyed This Is Home, so that's a little sad that the artist came out as a TIF. She has such a beautiful voice.
What is jungle music?
Jungle is a popular/root genre of EDM (electronic dance music)
It is typified by assemblages of rolling and broken beats (versus percussive house or trance-y beats) inspired by the concept of creating an ever-emergent aural/vibrational environment (a jungle) for dancers to express themselves within. It tends to be fast and complex.

I read it described once as “a half-empty tin of biscuits rolling down a particularly long flight of stairs”, so there’s that 🤣
OK, I'm old.
Jungle has been around since the 90s and I'm not sure why OP included it in the post
I might've worded it wrong in my initial post, but I was mainly mentioning Jungle in the context that it's been a genre where I've seen more of a trans takeover in recent years. Hopefully that make more sense!
really? dang i have not noticed that, do you have any examples?
There was a really good KF thread about it! I'll try to find it, but things have been harder to find since they were shut down for a while.

"Trans core" is so wild to me, but I know exactly what you're talking about. I hate that this somewhat interferes with your music-making. That sounds very frustrating. And it also sounds frustrating to creators who state their music isn't really inspired from all the trans stuff, too.
Part of me wants us to co-opt their music sub genres into our own and make cool terven music genres a thing. That'd be a way fight back against all this, lol.
I'm tired of the younguns using the whole -wave and -core and aStHeTiC ViBeS language in general to mean they just really like something. lmfao sigh I am a crone
I started using these terms ironically and now I can’t stop. “This toothpaste is white with red and green stripes, and it’s very minty. It’s so 80s vaporwave wintercore. The bottle is so art deco. It’s giving dental health, literally y2k boss babe energy” Someone please help me
Slang catches on because it fills a linguistic need 😂 sounds like you're in your descriptive-maxxing era
