Will women's rights be respected and restored now that some women, like Nancy Mace are speaking out? I feel buoyed one day and the next I feel that during my lifetime women will be fighting this fight.
The New York Times uses their opinion writers to tackle the issue of transgender rights and while an occasional gently questioning article by Pamela Paul is permitted, almost all other NYT opinion writers are unrelentingly pro trans superiority rights.

Two stars of the campaign to limit access to care are Chloe Cole in the United States and Keira Bell in the United Kingdom, girls who transitioned to being boys and later detransitioned to being young women. Both of them have repeatedly expressed fear that the treatment they received as teenagers could have rendered them infertile. It may or may not have; the long-term effects of puberty blockers followed by hormone therapy aren’t well known, though many trans men who started hormone treatment as adults have been able to get pregnant.

In both cases, the objective is to control the means of reproduction. That’s usually the goal of movements that purport to protect women and girls.
But the price trans Americans will likely pay if we are abandoned by the Democratic Party as a small and unpopular constituency may be much higher.
Ok M Gessen try being your best self and that would be somebody who bucks stereotypes and is a what others might see as a masculine woman. No you won't be a member of a small unpopular constituency and you won't be a martyr but you won't be forcing people to address you as male. You are not.
