I never would have thought something so basic that has been understood for thousands of years would be up for debate in any country's highest court. Why isn't the court hearing the definition of a man as well?

NONovember 26, 2024

It's men.

Men get what they want.

Men are still and will always be privileged

chocolatefondant21November 26, 2024

I’m hoping they will not always be privileged

Seriously! Makes me a bit depressed.

"At the most basic level, it will address what “sex” actually means in law.

Is it about biology and chromosomes set at birth, or does it tie in ideas of gender identity and the gender recognition process?"

Sex is ... sex; not gender identity. You're welcome.

"The issue being considered by the court is whether “a person with a full gender recognition certificate - which recognises their gender is female - is a ‘woman’ for the purposes of the Equality Act”."

Gender cannot be female; only sex can be female; and sex is immutable. Glad I can help again

Gah! Both options are wrong! Sex is defined by gonads and gametes (testes and sperm, ovaries and ovum). Chromosomes lead to the gonadal differentiation, but the mechanism still isnt fully understood, (hence things like non-sry XX male). The sex chromosomes themselves were only discovered about a hundred years ago, whereas human reproduction has been working quite preditably for 5 million years. Do you jizz out of your dick? Youre a man. Do you menstruate out your vagina? Youre a woman. You need one of each to make new humans. Two dick-jizzers and two vagina-bleeders will never be successful. If you do neither by the age of maturity you have some kind of disorder and need to see medical advice clarity. Sex is a reproductive category, it is defined entirely by the gonads and gametes.

Gender identity and gender recognition have nothing to do with anything.

"The issue being considered by the court is whether “a person with a full gender recognition certificate - which recognises their gender is female - is a ‘woman’ for the purposes of the Equality Act”.

If you call a dog's tail a leg, how many legs does it have?

Four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one.

Males have usurped 'woman' - already dirtied our identity as if it were theirs to pee on along with our rights. We did not consent to sharing. TRAs view our identity as a mere accessory.

Our identity must remain ours alone, otherwise, we cease to exist as a legally identifiable group under domestic and international law.

The Cold War on Women is about to get hot.

No never mind. It’s full of fucking misogynists

FemmeEtalNovember 26, 2024

Humans cannot change sex. It’s really that simple. It’s not possible. Laws that govern reality should be based in it. I…what even…heavy sigh I’m so very tired.

History will look back at this era as being the dumbest of all times.

I feel sick watching this. If a man can be 'certified' into being a lesbian, we can be 'certified' out of being lesbians. The man with a certificate is allowed legal certification that he is more of a 'real' lesbian than we are.

FeministaRadicalNovember 27, 2024

There’s a reason trans identified women are not fighting to infiltrate male single sex spaces .. I hate it here.

The other issue in this is that the requirements of a GRC are low and subject to change.

Obviously having a GRC doesn't make you the opposite sex. But at least, if you had to go through a rigorous psychiatric evaluation and HRT + SRS for years, that'd deter most opportunists and might lower the risk profile. But that's not the requirement. And even if it were, it's always something that can be lowered (that's what the push for self-id was all about).

What irks me is when people say 'oh, nobody would go through the bother of getting a GRC just to gain access to woman's spaces for nefarious purposes'. It's like A. even if they're sincere, single-sex ought to mean single-sex and B. if you think that, surely you ought to support more rigorous criteria for a GRC...no?

LillithNovember 27, 2024

GRC isn't enough. The argument would just be "but how can you force them to risk their lives and lose their fertility just to be able to use the restroom?"

MobymaybeNovember 26, 2024

What a waste of resources.

hellamomzillaNovember 26, 2024

Another article about this was posted a while back. It was darkly amusing as it attempted to complicate how sex is defined, but had opened noting the sex of the judges.

Next up: The Supreme Court decides on some other unanswerable questions like "How do I breathe?" and "What color is the sky?"

What a time to be alive. Thanks to all my fellow women out there that made this possible 👍🏻 I can tell yall really care about your sisters. /s

HalfMentalAlchemistNovember 26, 2024

Do we have any estimate on when a judgement will be reached?

Elle_x_ohNovember 26, 2024

As long as the court doesn't take its cue from the Aussie decision and the Giggle/Tickle case.

Maybe.....hopefully their bravado will be emboldened by the change to a Trump-gov'ment in the US.

readfreakNovember 26, 2024

Last I heard it will be sometime in the summer of 2025 but maybe they will leak.

LillithNovember 27, 2024

If those conservative judges drop the ball on this, I will lose my mind. They know what women are when it's time to legislate reproductive rights.
