My emails were returned quickly, my appointments scheduled efficiently, and I never fell through the cracks. I was helped along every step of the way.
Despite never being diagnosed with gender dysphoria, I was able to obtain a prescription for testosterone and approval for a “gender-affirming” double mastectomy from my doctor.
Bottom surgery would cost me a copay of $200, which included a couple of days in the hospital for recovery.
There were no discussions about how these treatments would impact my long-term health, romantic relationships, family, or sex life. I charted the course. >
This is rage-inducing. How is this possible when everyone else has to pull teeth and spend an arm and leg for real conditions?
It's also cruel to not tell these troubled ppl (who are often children) about the downsides. I wonder how many would have been spared these mutilations with a simple "you will have trouble finding a partner. You'll never have kids and you'll never have another O."
The only "good" thing is the increasing number of teen girls doing this might possibly turn it into a "girly" and therefore ridiculous thing to do.
I hope this woman doesn't get sued for medical fraud.
I hope this woman doesn't get sued for medical fraud.
I don't want that to happen to her, but I'd love to see the hospital attempt to define non-binary in order to prove she doesn't qualify, and publicly argue that patients aren't allowed to change their identity and pronouns on a whim.
The fact that she's out here saying that she was pretending would probably be enough evidence.
It would be nice if this forced them to define things. And TIMs should be pleased since difficulty accessing medical services is authentic female experience.
When I was on the job market a few years ago, I almost started putting nonbinary or trans on my application data just to see if it would push me through the automated system faster. It's all whatever you say you are, so it's not like I'd be lying. I was non0binary when I applied, then I was trans, now on the day after I get hired, I'm back to cis het, then I'm back to NB. Where does it end? It's all made up. Truly the most protected caste.

I love Beth Bourne, highly recommend following her on X if you don't already.
No other condition gets this “Rolls-Royce”, smooth and frictionless treatment. Not even things that might be fatal. People wait for years for spine or hip surgery, not being able to walk. Disgusting.
Maybe they need to ask for a gender affirming hip surgery because they identify as a gender that can walk.
I got my hips done through Kaiser, and it was quite the frictionless pipeline, not a long wait, great surgeon, less than a thousand dollars for both, huge quality of life improvement, and I am forever grateful. But, hips are the second most common surgery in the US and relatively simple, anything odd or hard is a nightmare with them. It's really disturbing to see them go full gender abattoir.
Sorry, I was thinking about Canada…here “gender affirming” surgeries are scheduled with priority over anything else😭
You are right that that is completely crazy.
