DiscussionDiscussion: Is the tide really turning?
Posted January 15, 2025 by skepticles in GenderCritical

It's easy to get the impression when consuming gender critical (or even just moderately heterodox) media that the tide is turning and we are seeing some much-needed pushback against the extremes reached by years of unhinged trans activism. One can point to many things: the Cass Review and its effects, significant polling showing that the Democrats' embrace of trans extremism played a role in their failure in November, the appearance of dissenters like Seth Moulton, de-transitioners like Chloe Cole and whistleblowers like Jamie Reed, the apparent rejection by the public of trans inclusion in sports, the erosion of single-sex spaces, and outright denial of basic science-- I could go on and I am sure you all could as well. I can also point to my own peaking, which fits a particular pattern I am inclined to say has surely repeated with many people in similar situations to mine, as well as an array of anecdotes from friends and acquaintances. For example, a friend sent me a screenshot from an old high school classmate of his taking to Facebook to announce she was no longer identifying as trans, referred to the movement as "poison," and disavowed the entire belief system in the most certain terms imaginable after years of medical transition. It was a remarkable post and I feel like I've been hearing other stories like it.

It really does feel things are changing, but I am also aware that I've moved into different communities, began consuming different media, and changed my own mind about this issue considerably over the years, so I am wary of growing out of touch and falling into an echo chamber. What do you all think? Do feel like you're seeing compelling evidence that the conversation is changing around this issue? I'd love to hear thoughts and stories.
