One of my favorite lines from the Chernobyl series popped up on YouTube today. It fits perfectly with the whole gender ideology and "Be Kind, just play along" crowd.
Valery Legasov : [on tape] To be a scientist is to be naive. We are so focused on our search for the truth we fail to consider how few actually want us to find it. But it is always there whether we see it or not, whether we choose to or not. The truth doesn't care about our needs or wants, it doesn't care about our governments, our ideologies, our religions. It will lie in wait for all time. And this, at last, is the gift of Chernobyl. Where I once would fear the cost of truth, now I only ask: What is the cost of lies?
Judge Milan Kadnikov : Professor Legasov, if you mean to suggest the Soviet State is somehow responsible for what happened, then I must warn you, you are treading on dangerous ground.
Valery Legasov : I've already trod on dangerous ground. We're on dangerous ground right now, because of our secrets and our lies. They are practically what define us. When the truth offends, we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there, but it is still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid. That is how an RBMK reactor core explodes. Lies.
These two lines in bold :
We fail to consider how few actually want us to find it
This point is actually pretty clear and proven that they actually don't want to find it. Remember this from 2 month ago?
When the truth offends, we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there, but it is still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later, that debt is paid
I wonder how that debt would be paid. 10 years down the line a generation of mentally ill teenagers who can't reproduce, can't hold a job, can't have meaningful sex lives, dependent on medication for the rest of their natural lives? While women can't even use the restroom outside their homes without fear of being assaulted by a man in a dress ?
The lie that started with that sex and gender is different, and men can be women if they dress like a women, has now resulted in men being awarded women of the year awards.
I guess everyone here knows this. But the point I am making is, the debt of Trans Lies are not big enough to rise to the level of a Chrnobyl-level explosion, YET. And that's why it's important that this lie be stopped, now, even if it is Trump who does it.
I know Trump is a controversial topic now, but keeping our head in the sand isn't gonna change reality. A win is a win, doesn't matter how we get there. Especially to those girls who are not gonna lose a position because a boy in a dress, a domestic violence victim isn't gonna care that she doesn't have to sleep next to a TiM in a shelter whether it's Trump who signed the EO or not. A partying vulnerable young girl isn't gonna care if it was Trump who kicked out TiMs from restrooms when she needed to go. A female prisoner locked in a cell with a rapist who calls himself a woman just to have easy access to more victims is not gonna care who signed that order
Saw an X post yesterday where a woman from the UK was asking why the BBC concentrated on all of Trump's executive orders but for the sex recognition EO. I notice the Washington Post which used to run a pro trans article almost daily has had no trans articles in the past two days. Why?
Instead of walking their lies back, I think the media that lied and lied about trans ideology is maybe just going to go quiet. Pretend they never lied. It's only been two days though, I'll wait and see.
I notice the Washington Post which used to run a pro trans article almost daily has had no trans articles in the past two days. Why?
I see it as not wanting to admit the truth. They've been telling the news in deceitful ways (Eg. reporting male criminals as female and outright ignoring any issue that affects women's safety). But there's no way to twist the news now. They cannot report it without listing all the declarations made in the EO (Eg A woman is an adult human female). How incredibly shameful the media is and has been.
Perhaps some of them are waiting for the challenges so they can report it from there. I've seen glimpses of this already. Its sickening but they are digging their heels in.
My favorite is when they refer to TIM criminals as women and conveniently leave out photos so we can see he's not
I guess they've learned their lesson.
I remember a dust-up several years ago when a newspaper in the San Francisco Bay Area ran an article about a TIM who pistol-whipped and robbed another man. The article ran his mugshot, and the headline mentioned that he was a trans "woman". Activists were outraged that the article made mention of that (media are supposed to mention "trans" when they're victims, but call them "women" when they're perpetrators). The journalist's response was that, since the perp's mugshot was included, he figured readers would figure it out anyway (with the implication that the newspaper would lose credibility for implicitly trying to fool people).
Needless to say, that didn't placate the T. Regardless of how journalists and editors feel about the issue, they know what they need to do to avoid harassment and outrage.
I'm in the UK and I've noticed how none of the main stream news outlets have even mentioned the end of gender thing, only a few have mentioned the removal of DEI from government departments.
things like GB news tell you you the whole thing but the BBC, the newspapers do not. They either don't think it matters because they never acknowledged that womens rights mattered at all in the first place or they are deliberately ignoring it for some reason, maybe out of fear it will increase the calls for the same here.
"I notice the Washington Post which used to run a pro trans article almost daily has had no trans articles in the past two days"
They did have an article that mentioned Trump's EO on sex/gender in the headline, but it has a bizarrely low number of comments - under 20, compared to the usual high hundreds or low thousands:
How are they doing that? Not serving it up in people's feeds?
Yes. They hide articles and I have seen them do this on the gender topic all the time. You can only find them if you use the search bar and type in transgender or some other key word.
I am glad about the EO related to sex and transgender issues.
I am equally concerned about the pauses in communication at CDC and NIH.
The Morbitity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) was not published on time this week. This should concern all of us.
He put terminology related to fetal personhood in this order. Andy Biggs has two bills related to abortion and female related reproductive rights pending for Congress. One of them says males must be considered for our services and uses pro life language. So pardon me if I can care about more than one issue. That vulnerable girl will care if I celebrate “a win” while taking a different right from her. He just signed an EO undoing LBJ protections for employment, one of which protects sex. I can not celebrate trading one right for another. I never could. That’s what neither the Dems or republicans could understand. I stand for women and our rights. This isn’t teams.
Did he sign an additional EO regarding employment or are you saying this EO rescinds previous employment protections? Thanks for pointing out the fetal personhood language. I'm afraid this EO is a trojan horse, but haven't read though the rescinded orders/policy etc...
He signed an additional order. He has been on a roll. This order specifically defines male and female using language that can be used used to facilitate fetal personhood arguments.
Here’s the order for gender:
The other order was taking back LBJ’s order for discrimination protections in federal workplaces. Here it is:
Here’s the original: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ofccp/executive-order-11246/as-amended
I’ve been trying to keep up with his admin, but they’ve been making it difficult. Links not working. Normal processes broken. I understand the need to breathe for a minute.
FYI there are multiple threads here on the first EO listed.
I am grateful to Trump for this EO. That is part of the truth, too.
I think we all would love for this EO to win the war, stop the madness. I hate Trump and would happily give him credit for this.
But this changes nothing for most TRAs. If anything, they're doubling down. I was just starting to see doubt and backtracking, mostly around sports, and more LGB rolling their eyes and saying they were sick of trans. Now trans are sacred cows again, coddled by all good progressives. Any GC message is "transphobia" linked to everything else he does.
In essence, the Left needs to see the truth of gender ideology, not simply be overruled, or they'll start it all up again if they regain power. This is a lovely reprieve but not a permanent victory.
My biggest hope is that Dems will create workarounds like creating trans prison units that then are harder to argue against even when a Democrat is back the saddle.
Remember the NYT poll though -- public sentiment is changing.
There will always be a TRA hardcore. Those who will be open to thinking this through for themselves and following the evidence . . . it's going to take time. They need to keep building trust in their own instincts over group pressures and biases, and that's not really a linear process.
Big tech is gonna be a big factor regarding trans propaganda. It's reddit that's not budging.
The election results showed how out of touch those guys are, but still it given TRAs a loudspeaker they shouldn't get.
I do see some slight cracks in the Reddit facade, tho. Tiny, but undeniable.
I feel this may just break down some denial in some Democrats. A bona-fide Enemy of All People Everywhere (okay too dramatic) -- maybe not -- has done something that is WILDLY POPULAR even with the vast majority of run-of-the-mill middle-of-the-road Democrats. They all KNOW, the ones promoting this in Democrat party/circles, that it's all bullshit! They know it! They know "Sarah" McBride is lying through his fucking teeth! And now finally the bubble has been burst, even if plenty of Dems don't want to say it. What? It's okay to tell the truth! Yeah you better before we get 8 fucking years of Republicans in power.
In a stroke of irony, the McBride congressman’s legal first name is Tim.
I see the opposite, it is going to let Democrats and people on the left stick their head in the sand and refuse to listen because it is coming from Trump. I'm trying to get our school district to drop gender identity education and this just made my task much harder.
A lot of Democrats voted for Trump. He got an increase amongst Black & Hispanic men.
A lot of Democrats didn't vote for a President or stayed home.
The EO will take gender ideology out of schools that get federal aid & emphasize math & reading. The schools won't be able to include males in girls sports. Whether they like it or not, school districts will have to follow.
I did NOT vote for Trump. For many reasons. But Jan. 6th & the attempt to overthrow an election by encouraging a mob willing to get violent against Congress & shouting "Hang Pence" was the #1 reason. But after this EO only the Dem elites & far woke left will be supporting gender ideology. Most Dems don't support gender ideology but are afraid to say so.
My concern is this will make the Dems who don't agree less likely to acknowledge that because they'll be tainted by Trump. I hope I'm wrong, but from what I'm seeing on social media I fear I'm right.
I'm happy for this EO and think it's a net win, but no doubt Eava is correct that there is going to be considerable blowback in terms of Dems digging in. Blue cities, in the short term, will see some even crazier levels of TRA bootlicking and woman hating. That could, in turn, drive even more moderates to the Right. Some of us who have mostly Team Blue communities will find ourselves under even more pressure to keep silent.
I would like to think of ways to counter this escalating polarization. So much of the language in the EO was taken from the work of Lefty feminists, like Dansky.
How do we amplify the message that pro woman/pro reality curbs on trans overreach, has broad grassroots support across party lines?
How do we amplify the message that pro woman/pro reality curbs on trans overreach, has broad grassroots support across party lines?
Same as the day before the EO was signed. Polls, sports policies, court cases.
Give them a little time to adjust -- the swearing-in just happened. Hearings, court cases, and research will continue on this and will give them a wider opportunity to talk about it as an issue in and of itself (rather than a "partisan" issue).
Regarding schools, I was quite horrified yesterday when I saw that EO was prominently being discussed on reddit only on r/Teachers sub. Everywhere else it was Elon dominating.
They really really need to get these indoctrinating teachers out of public schools. They are the ones who are pushing it on small children.
I dont know if the EO can take gender ideology out of schools. There are federal laws that prohibit the DoE from dictating curriculum.
Remember -- the research is on your side, and it's continuing to come out. In the past, people have stubbornly disbelieved so much until it became undeniable: the long-term harms of lobotomies, thalidomide, DES, tobacco, next-generation opioids. This is next.
This. I wish people could understand this excellent and true point. Anything that attempts to suppress/reverse trans ideology and that is enacted by the right is going to opposed by the left and left-leaning moderates, regardless of whether it's scientifically valid or not, because it was enacted by the right.
You want to change the minds of people on the left and left-leaning moderates - the message and explanation needs to come from people on the left.
message and explanation needs to come from people on the left.
Those who tried were badged right wing and called names. Look at what they did to JKR
Yeah… I can’t see too many people on the left being willing to take that level of abuse. It’s fucking despicable tbh, they won’t listen to anyone not on the left, yet they won’t let their own speak. The closed-mindedness, groupthink and intolerance of the left is something they will have to solve on their own. I hope they do, and that they’ll come out better for it. But non-leftists are not going to silence themselves in the meantime, and nor should they.
I hate this political climate.
The vast majority of people including parents are not left leaning as far as trans ideology goes even in a community that on-the-surface seems to be very woke. The loudest are assumed to be the majority. Most people want common sense and trans ideology doesn't make sense. At school board meetings, the first thing a parent speaking up should state is that their views have nothing to do with political sides. Oddly enough ACLU WA has a good Tip Sheet for speaking at school board meetings. https://www.aclu-wa.org/docs/tips-presenting-school-boards
Agree. No one against Trump is gonna change their minds on trans bc of... his executive order. lol. What I've seen is they are digging their heels in even harder to oppose everything Trump does. Even my Trump hating mom who I peaked years ago is lately more sympathetic to trans because of Trump's bullshit.
That's an even bigger fear, people backsliding to avoid being associated with anything Trump related.
I think you are correct. They will double down. And resistance to Trump is every thing, regardless.
Why would an EO from Trump change anyone's mind? It makes them dig their heels in harder. No one who's against Trump is gonna see the light because of his executive orders.
For sure. And it might very well make independents and moderates more open to the republicans. Or, it might just drive normies to disengage even more from politics. Just in the last few days, the absurd "genital inspection" talking point has made prominent congressional progressives look hysterical and dumb. I used to be a HUGE AOC fan. Her performance made me feel sick to my stomach.
Cumulative effect -- the EO in combination with sports, schools, Cass Review, all of it.
There comes a point when a dose of realism from a source you despise doesn't negate the mounting concordant realism all around you.
While I agree with this post, Trump's EO is not about protecting women and girls, and our rights.
He will use it to further remove them, mark my words.
Wow. I watched this show recently and those lines resonated with me for pretty much the exact same reason.
Beautifully articulated.
If I could get only one message through, this would be it. If someone gives you an opening against Trans Inc -- use it. It doesn't have to be a perfect opening; leverage it into something better. It doesn't have to come from the perfect quarter; use it anyway.
Years ago we started this pushback with such narrow windows of opportunity and such an overwhelming need for anonymity (to stay safe, to stay employed). Look around at how much that's changed in two decades. As of 2020, thanks to the mods, we have this site. GC activists and authors have increasingly gone public. We've got (rough count) a dozen or so trans widows, parents/grandparents-of, and family members-of active here, along with detransitioners and desisters, and many, many more offsite. Multiple whistleblowers. One former gender clinician in active testimony as an expert witness in the US, more expert critics in the UK.
What doesn't serve here, at all, is women tearing down other women about the election. If you don't like the incoming administration's plans or philosophies, great -- go fight them directly. Invite other women to join you. Make effective plans, take action, sustain your efforts. Pro tip tho: ditch the passive-aggressive ad hominems and drop the complaining about how "GC isn't everything." We know that. That's why we're here in o/GC, a topical circle, keeping it topical.
This is exactly why there's no one-and-done victory here. It's a multigenerational issue by definition. We're only just now at the point where this is going public and being seen for what it is.
