QuestionAnyone else lose their Reddit account in the past few days?
Posted February 6, 2025 by bunyip in GenderCritical

I have to admit it, I'm kind of hooked on that stupid site. It's full of porn and male supremacist mods who issue bans for supporting women's rights, I would love to see something else take its place, but for now it's still a good place for discussing TV shows and music as long as you don't say anything political.

I was just issued a permanent ban without mentioning anything political. I suspect it's because in the past, I actively discussed trans issues and women's rights to the point of losing three accounts there. I gave up on trying, made a fourth account and just stuck to entertainment topics and have been using that for the last year.

Yesterday that fourth account was suddenly banned, with no reason given. I suspect they have a new tool to detect multiple accounts from the same IP, and might have re-banned a lot of people who have been banned before and simply made a new account. I'm curious if anyone else here had a similar experience recently.

I tried using a browser with a built in VPN feature to make a fifth account, just to respond to a topic about a TV show I've been watching. Two comments later and that account was banned too. I'm not sure how they managed to do that, maybe I did something wrong but it said the VPN was active.

I guess it's really time to give up on that site for good, you have to be a lifelong cult member with no history of supporting women's rights to be there at this point. I can't believe this is what the internet has turned into.

still a good place for discussing TV shows and music as long as you don't say anything political.

Go without it for a few weeks and you'll see that it's really not.

Take a break for a month, then go back and read the same subreddits with a critical eye. The opinions which 99.99+% of its userbase have are stupid beyond belief, roughly half of it is astroturf marketing just eternally thumbs-upping whatever is at hand, and the rest is a bunch of lamp-eyed basement goblins acting as eternal busybodies correcting your grammar and keeping their eyes peeled for "transphobia."

My daughter and I call reddit "Chubby Boys Overreacting." It's literally the entire site. It's fucking garbage.

Seriously, go without for a few weeks and see how you feel about it afterwards.

You're absolutely correct. The only sub I actually look at is travisandtaylor because it's hilarious. Still a lot of shitty takes on there, too, though.

Change devices along with VPN. It tracks a whole lot of info rather than just IP to fingerprint you.

If you normally use wifi, change it to mobile internet with VPN and create new account some other way like "log in using Google button"

If you don't have access to a new device, using a different browser might be enough.

Also, I've noticed they don't like some public/free VPNs so it might be worth signing up on coffee shop wifi and letting the account "age" for a bit before using it at home.

i deleted my account months ago but i still use the website.

unfortunately there’s no real replacement for reddit… i like going on subs for my hobbies and interests, i often browse the subs for the city i live in, or my health problems, or just really specific meme subs.

i haven’t found a good replacement for those aspects of the site, so it’s a shame they’re so captured by the TQ+

The astroturfing there has gotten pretty out of control. It seems like the number of "acceptable" opinions gets smaller every day. It's truly bizarre.

You gotta delete cookies too. I got chain banned at some point a year or two ago and I think I did something like toss away all my old reddit accounts (log out and toss away the passwords), delete all cookies (from every browser you use), and then I reset my router to get a new IP address. I was able to make a new account without it immediately getting suspended and been using it since but I also no longer engage in this topic on there.

Thanks, that's some useful advice. It didn't occur to me just how many ways they can track you.

I use it for gaming subs and cats. Oddly enough the gaming subs are some of the least toxic places there!

I've begun to regularly delete my post history, so when the brigade from TRA Discord servers spots a comment they hate, they don't have a lot to report spam abuse. I feel like that may have helped keep mine.

I'm permabanned.

Me too. Proudly

I'm disappointed, there are a couple subreddits I'd love to participate in, for ongoing support on an issue & also hobby-related. I can't even make one little tiny joke, or tell someone they made a good point, NOTHING. Besides the red banner every single time, this account is permabanned.

No account to lose, but just wondering if that outbreak of subs being temporarily banned a couple of days ago might be related; given it seems like it was banning trans, porn, and drug subs (as well as it sounds like subs that had slightly more trans-critical content under the excuse of having 'no active moderators'), wondering if really they just meant to crack down on 'transphobic' content with a new algorithm/tool but it didn't function as intended.

Know it seems like people have been being a little bit more outspokenly critical about the nonsense than they've dared to be on there for a few years and the powers that be might feel like they need a new arsenal of things to suppress it.

I made a new email account at the library and signed up for reddit with that account there and only use the account at the library.

Holy shit I remember that case. He’s blaming it on gender dysphoria? He can go with the Australian who blamed the sexual abuse he inflicted on his daughter on gender dysphoria and die somewhere.

What more do we need to prove this is a mental sickness. This is disgusting.

Not yet but I have been active in a sub discussing Argentina's end to trans hormones and surgeries for children this morning, so I would expect one soon.

SaladSparklzFebruary 6, 2025

I was just saying the other day that I'm going undetected. I'm not getting comments deleted, sub bans or site bans. I'm on my 3rd or 4th account. There's no rhyme or reason it seems.

SarahWilliams_13February 6, 2025

I’m also pretty undetected in at least one account. Another one is compromised so I’ll be deleting it.

I suspect they have a new tool to detect multiple accounts from the same IP, and might have re-banned a lot of people who have been banned before and simply made a new account.

Not new, they've been able to do this all along. I did hear that a bunch of subs were recently banned for inactive moderation (of course people were freaking out because this includes a lot of porn subs and they thought it was a targeted attack on porn subs, but I'm pretty sure it's just that reddit is like... Majority porn). I suspect they weren't enforcing certain rules very hard for a while and now are. Why is unclear, but probably related to the new US administration in some capacity, whether worry about running afoul of something/someone or pressure from someone, who knows.

No but I am sure I will eventually

FeministunderyrbedFebruary 6, 2025(Edited February 6, 2025)

I haven’t really spent time there in years except for the occasional link from here or web search. I had a ton of alts which I think I lost at some point. I did get signed out of my main account sometime in the past few days, but I signed back in just now.
