I only found out about this community (DID) because I am a trans widow, and joined a pro-trans Discord server to support my AGP ex (I had definitely drank the kool-aid about the ideology for years, but I peaked last October, largely because of the server itself, but thats a separate story).
Anyway, I noticed that every third person in the server or so seemed to identify as also having Dissociative Identity Disorder, with their own alleged "alters" who frequently had sexual and romantic relationships with other "alters" in the same "system".
Frequently these "alters" were just characters from a particular cartoon or anime; one person had an alter from My Hero Academia named Dabi. Some of the members pretended to have different "alters" fronting and would change their typing style to create the illusion of a new, different person behind the screen.
But what was worse is that they basically groomed people into thinking they also had DID. When someone would describe having ADHD attention-related memory issues (something I personally experience and can attest to), the people on the server would be like "that sounds like dissociation!" But if you suggested getting evaluated by a professional, that was bad because professionals want to treat DID and "kill" the alters.
Then, on Tiktok, I also noticed that the people presumably faking DID identified as transgender, as indicated by pronouns that didn't match their sex. People would make videos introducing their alters and give them specific pronouns, change their hair style and clothes, etc.
Do you think that if you're already trans-identified, you're more likely to malinger and pretend to have DID than people without the same identification? I think it has something to do with narcissism but I need to do more research before making that assertion definitively. Today, I just wanted to start a conversation.
