It is obscene that a Democrat who is simply representing the interests and desires of the people in his district (mainly the women) is being treated like a dangerous extremist by his peers. I saw some clips of a stream on Jamie Reed's Twitter. I could only stand a few minutes of it. In what I saw, the women in the audience were berating him and employing emotional appeals ("vulnerable population", "I voted for you and I'm ashamed" etc) and he was asked "you have a lot of constitutents here who are upset with your vote. I'd just like clarification: do you vote your conscience or do you vote for your constituents?" He replied that he did his research and listened to women, Democrat women, who felt silenced on the issue. To which one woman in the audience replied with contempt "yes I believe they're called TERFS!"
This was applauded. I had to stop watching. These women hate other women that disagree on this. It's so disheartening, sad and scary.
The first 2-3 "questions" were just statements condemning Rep. Wheeler. Some other gems included Rep. Wheeler asking "I listened to women... am I supposed to just ignore them and call them transphobic?" to which MANY in the room responded with "YES!" Also, Reed mentioned at the end of the livestream (as people were leaving) she overheard the woman who hosted the event saying she wanted Wheeler voted out. The whole thing was a big pile-on, there was like one question directed to the other rep.
In any other context, a bunch of White women (I'm assuming most of the handmaidens here were White) doing this to a Black guy would get them doxxed and accused of being Karens and trying to kill him or whatever. But, because the Black guy thinks that females deserve to be listened to and keep some spaces to themselves, its open season on him
sometimes i really think we're doomed, then i remember most women probably didn't support the suffragettes either, and most women in third world countries are happy to continue FGM and child marriage traditions. and yet, we managed to gain all these rights these bird brains take for granted.
I feel like, on a lot of issues, there are 20 percent strongly in favor, 20 percent strongly against, and 60 percent largely in the middle. That was the spread of support/opposition/indifference regarding the American Revolution.
The problem for the 20 percent rabidly in favor of trans getting whatever they want all the time is that the normally indifferent 60 percent are turning against that, and the rabid 20 percent have yet to pick up on it (or they just assume the ~80 percent largely against them are all Nazis).
I watched Jamie Reed's video and it's so clear who is educated on these things & who isn't. She, Kara Dansky, and Cori from the Heterdorx podcast (who is/was? a TIM but a sex realist, not a TRA) were there in support and had information and sensible questions.
The other people in the room kept bringing up the standard talking points - "it's a known cause of suicide", "it's 1% of the population, just a right wing distraction!" "I was not unsafe in bathrooms, violence is in the home!" "they want to eradicate trans people" - which even when you write them down don't make sense together (distraction or eradication?) but mostly, which we know are simply false or misleading claims and don't get corrected. They just get applauded, and people leave these kinds of talks having said their piece, angry that someone disagrees but unwilling to listen to why or what information they might have.
Do people hand out information flyers correcting popular myths or providing any resources at these meetings? I think especially that kind of approach is what some portion of people need to come across...

When the midterms happened, I didn’t vote, I’ve gotten into a habit of not voting in the midterms because of my political apathy, but I followed the campaigns and elections closely.
Biden was saying things like, if you vote Dem this midterm, we can save Roe (this was after the Supreme Court struck down Roe v Wade). The result was that the dems did very well and then Biden basically said, “well actually…. My hands are tied, I can’t do anything.”
I thought to myself, “The arsehole managed to destroy women’s rights with an executive order on Title IX, why am I surprised that he won’t do a thing for Roe?” He could have EO-ed Roe the same way he pushed men into women’s sports.
I don’t feel like a Dem anymore. I didn’t like Ralph Nader 25 years ago but if he had said that both parties are the same in 2025, I’d wholeheartedly agree with him. At this present time, both parties equally hate women.
By the way, my political apathy to the midterms doesn’t exactly translate to when it comes to voting for president but I wavered between voting for Harris or not voting at all. In the end, I voted for her but I don’t like that I did. I voted for Gore, Kerry and Clinton (the losers of their respective elections I meant, I voted for Obama and Biden) and I felt happier voting for them than I did voting Harris. I felt like I was mourning something as I filled in that circle. I hated that I voted for her because I hated Trump. I was this close to not voting and it’s something I long criticised others for doing. I suddenly understood why people didn’t vote.
If the Dems don’t change by the midterms next year, I’ll continue my political apathy but wouldn’t root for them.

Later, I read Ronan Farrow's excellent book/expose about Harvey Weinstein, which revealed (among many other things) that Hillary Clinton knew soooo much (to the point where victims even reached out to her personally thinking she must not know he's a dangerous rapist lol).
I can't believe I was forced to vote for a woman who chose to actively enable and protect him b/c he donated over a million dollars himself and ran fundraisers in his house for her 2016 bid. This was gonna be our first woman president.

Its not your fault. I was alive in the 90s. The media actively portrayed Clinton as a mischievous playboy and downplayed the accusations of rape. The media also painted his accusers as "lying, gold-digging whores". They also painted the Lewinsky thing as "just an affair" and ignored the power dynamics at play between a 22 year old intern and the goddam POTUS.

I feel like this is part of the reason why the accusations against Trump didn't gain much traction among people who didn't already hate him. Not so much that Clinton could get away with it (so why can't Trump?), but that voters are now primed to hear and dismiss rape allegations against presidential candidates. The constantly shifting accusation against Biden didn't help either.
