This might be an unpopular opinion... I just saw the movie last night. The CGI animation is impressive certainly, because it looks so close to real. But it gives me the creeps! It's like Uncanny Valley with animals? I watched the original Lion King (1994) afterward and I really miss that classic animation. The difference in music was big too, the old one was just as catchy as ever, and I don't remember a single song from Mufasa even though it was just last night. The songs were forgettable. I left singing "He Lives in You" from Lion King 2 instead lol
Apparently Disney prefers 3D movies now because they're guaranteed to make money, and they don't have many of the original employees who did the 2D art. Many of the 2D artists were laid off a decade ago.
I really appreciated Mufasa: The lion king. It was a lovely experience: the visuals were stunning and captivating, the soundtrack was enjoyable, the storytelling was amazing and the characters are fascinating and intriguing!
Seeing this in Imax 3D was very cool, it's like the height of 3D filmmaking. With these CGI movies it's great because they can create them in native 3D where the scenes are rendered from two points of view, instead of the fake 3D in most films which is added post-process.
It's a good origin story for Mufasa, but some of the pacing could have been better. There was too much cut away to Pumba and Timon, and this time could have been used to develop some of the story more, since they did use almost 2 hours of film time. The movie also started off slowly, but started to become a lot better once Mufasa encountered Rafiki's character.
As for the music the songs weren't really good.
Overall though its a good preview of the type of 3D films we could get in the future.
I'm still waiting for lion movie centered on female lions.
Yes! Female lions are out there raising and providing for their cubs while the males posture and squabble amongst themselves
This would be my dream come true! And they could even have an all female pride. Since it's a movie and doesn't have to be realistic, you could justify it that they get new lionesses via immigration, so they don't need a male to reproduce to keep their numbers.
They might make one about Kiara, the female cub in the film, depending on how this one does.
The Lion King 2 was focused on Simba's daughter Kiara : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lion_King_II:_Simba's_Pride
Nala's daughter Kiara?
Yep!
Why didn't they remake that one?
It would be awesome if they did! Did you watch it? :)
Years ago on DVD.
It was really cool! I will watch it again soon!
If they remake that one it could be a way to " make things right " for Scar as they seem to be wanting to make him a more sympathetic character as of recently like the Mufasa movie as Kiara ends up with Scar's adopted son Kovu in The Lion King 2...
Alas Kovu was not made Scar's biological son because Disney didn't want incest between cousins but since Mufasa and Scar don't seem to be biological brothers in the new live action movie continuity then Disney can just go with the original plan of making Kovu be Scar's biological son without it being incest when he mates with Kiara...
