DiscussionWomen on Reddit peaking on pornography

I'll keep this post brief, but I wanted to express some optimism about a recent post on r/TwoXChromosomes. See here:

(Non-archived version here) https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/z4iea6/a_male_friend_accidentally_sent_me_a_porn_video

TL;DR, OP was sent a porn video "accidentally" by a male friend. Upon clicking the link, she was sickened by the level of violence and abuse depicted. She goes on to make a lot of radical feminist critiques of porn, including: (this is my rephrasing, not her original words)

  1. How can one be said to consent to violent and degrading acts, and where would the limit be if that is the only consideration?
  2. All the discussion of whether women like violent and abusive porn / sex obscures the fact that men create the demand and act as though it is their god-given right to have unlimited access.
  3. Violent porn escalates violence and abuse from male consumers.

A lot of the comments are very insightful and seem to indicate that women are truly at the end of their patience with the pornified culture. They describe porn addicted partners, and how they have struggled with degrading sex and mental health, or partners that demanded porn acts from them.

Someone even linked to https://wecantconsenttothis.uk/, which is an org in the UK that advocates for women who are hurt or killed during "violent sex gone wrong," because it is now increasingly common for men to defend themselves by saying women consented to lethal sexual violence.

Another woman appears to have been suspended for her insightful comment. The women in the replies are very angry about this. This is her comment: > I was really into being the subject of that violent stuff at the lowest moments of my life (I was a teenager). I had literally no self respect and felt lower than dirt, I only felt value from doing things for others. It was somehow a turn on to have a sex act reflect how I felt about myself and to degrade myself in a way I thought I deserved. Trauma & abuse really screws with your head I know on some level I am just projecting- there are stable women who like this stuff- but anytime I've seen this type of act in porn I see my younger self in a lot of those young women. I still remember the feeling of seeing it on a porn website and being transported back to images when I had that same look in my eyes. Weirdly enough, despite being sort of hypersexual in my youth, I realized I was asexual in my older twenties, which I am almost grateful for because I am so tired of the trauma that comes with sex. Edit: I just got perma suspended for harassment? I am so confused >.< The majority of my comments are just friendly posts on autism, feminist, and hobby subreddits ;-;

Just a few days ago, this sub had a post about how amazing BDSM addicted male partners are. TwoX is far from free of porn-sick ideology, but I am hopeful seeing these women in the post I linked contradict the pro-porn propaganda so bravely.
