“Even if we don’t think of women wanting to BE married, we at least think of them as wanting to GET married. … Whereas very few boys grow up looking forward to the day that they’ll be a groom. There is no “American Groom” magazine. G. I. Joe does not have a little tux with a cummerbund … ” Singlism, Bella DePaulo, p.103
(I highly recommend her book!)
Just added this to my goodreads list!
I'm voluntarily celibate and plan to be single for the rest of my life. I cannot talk about this anywhere except here and with my best friend. Ppl think it's weird, or that I'm lying, or that I "just can't get a man"(lmao) etc etc etc.
I just like raising my child and living my life in peace. Literally the ONLY thing I want from a man would be his paycheck. If I had two incomes coming in, I could live a life of luxury
I read recently that 52% of the women in the U.S. are now single. Wish I'd kept the source, but do some googling. It's the elephant in the room no one's talking about, everyone's pretending we're all gung-ho for marriage--we're not.
That's not to say they're celibate, but I'll bet those figures are higher than most people think too. Good for you for thinking it through and sticking with a supposedly unpopular opinion!
