DiscussionSperm banks: yae or nay?
I've always been weirded out by the idea of sperm banks. I've never understood how any man can sign up to father a child or children whom he will never meet, and whose happiness and welfare will be completely outside of his control.
More recently, I've come to see them as, essentially, cheat codes for mediocre males. There is no right to reproduce, and nobody who is unwilling to put in the work of caring for a child should create one.
But what does this perspective imply about a woman who uses a sperm bank? Is she then an enabler of mediocre men, and the use of a sperm donor an anti-feminist act, regardless of the woman's reasons for doing so?
Discuss, please! I'm trying to sort my own thoughts out.
