QuestionWould it truly be possible to stop males from raping women and girls?
I was recently reading about the horrific incident of that French woman whose husband drugged her and let numerous men rape her over 10 years and it got me thinking about how much men are prone to raping women and girls. I then was reading some posts and tweets from women about rape culture and how men are basically socialized to see rape as some normal issue, and about how human rape is different from animal rape because of the how a good deal of the motivation is about dominance and power and not just spreading your seed. I've heard feminists say that in a perfect world we'd socialize boys to know that rape is wrong and prevent them from doing it. But then I thought, would it really be possible to stop them from raping? Since rape also stems from mens raging sex hormones, and the fact that sexual aggression is common in primates, would it just be something that women & girls would have to live with regardless? I've probably just answered my own question but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
