Here's the deal: With the GOP Trifector at the fed level, the one thing needed is a single politician who would take initiative to introduce bills. Whether you like it or not, Nancy Mace has seized the mantle to do that. There's no changing the elections result. Given the scenario, this is the best case scenario on the problem of trans ideology obliterating women's rights. So I'm glad Nancy Mace has made it her personal vendetta to push this issue. Because as much as Trump ran that they/them ad to win the race, I don't have faith this issue would be a priority on any male politician's agenda.
I hope she keeps this up and make sure every bill protecting women's sex-based right she pushes pass into law on the books once and for all.

I don't trust Trump to stay the course on this either. Especially if Bruce Jenner and other rich trans people/organizations start whispering in his ear and stroking his ego. So I'm also glad Mace has made this her Single Issue
I trust him to do the self-serving thing and do what makes his followers cheer for him. That means shutting down harmful woke nonsense, with the easiest examples being men in women's sports and male rapists in women's prisons.
He doesn't really care, and I could see him being persuaded by "just let the crossdressers pee without having to reveal they're male by using the men's room", but I think he'll draw the line at the unquestionably wrong stuff like cheating female athletes and amputating body parts of confused children.
That's a great point. As long as she keeps this up, I think Im going to be a stan for Nancy.
If ppl think its cool to vote for Trump despite...everything, then even when/if Nancy has a scandal, Ill keep supporting her. Men get away with freaking everything and dont lose any support.
I hope she goes full extremist on womens rights.
I left a message on her DC answering machine thanking her, but also saying most of the actual voters on the "Left" are against this. I do wish she could be a little less polarizing, even if she was saying "congressional democrats" rather than "The Left", it would be easier to support her.
I miss the days when supporting equal rights for women would never involve the word "extremist". It was a nice couple of decades while we had it.
The headline is deliberately misleading. Sex offenders are not being denied emergency shelter. They can access shelters in which they will have no access to women and children. Which is as it should be.
I didn't even have to read the article to know that was going to be the case.
Personally, I would back a law that actually bans sex offenders from emergency shelters. Why should a sex offender have any claim to the positive aspects of the social contract? How does society benefit from expending resources to protect or prolong the life of a sex offender? But then, I don't support releasing sex offenders from prison in the first place, so I admit that I'm starting from a different point than most people.
I think sex offenders should all get the death penalty. But since we insist on letting them live, they should only be allowed in male spaces even for life or death emergencies.
There are some people that have been given the label that just peed in the bushes while drunk. It's not great, but I don't think that group deserves that label or punishment
I hear this anecdote a lot but haven't been able to track down any real examples.
We can agree that drunk people peeing in bushes should not be executed though, yes?
Same, I kind of assume it's mostly guys who did a lot worse, who say this. That said, I knew a man who answered an ad on Craigslist from a 17.5 yo boy who lied about his age, had an affair with him, and ended up with a 5 year sentence when the kid's homophobic parents found out about it. The man ended up getting beaten to death in prison. I don't think he ever should have served time, but I think that case is unusual.
Do you know how old the guy was? I'm pretty sure most people can tell a teenager from a full-grown adult, so even if the child was 17.5 the situation is gross and predatory, especially if the guy was older. If the guy that ended up in prison was 18, then yeah, that situation sounds awful.
I think he was late 20s. I don't think I can tell the difference between an 18 yo and a 17.5 year old. I also don't think man-to-man relationships have the same power differential as older man - younger woman relationships. That said, dead guy was married to a woman who did not know he was cruising Craigslist, so he was being a sleaze on multiple levels, and he definitely deserved some negative consequences.
Well, I think older men preying on young women OR young men is disgusting. I couldn't tell an 18 year old from a 17.5 year old either, but I've never met a teenager that I didn't know was a teenager after I'd interacted with them for a bit. I've met people in their twenties that I thought were younger, but not the reverse. I hate that male gay culture has normalized predatory behavior the way that it has.
I mean, I get that, but there is a lot about gay men's culture that doesn't work at all for me, and works well for them. And I can't exactly see it as "predatory" when the kid put an ad on Craigslist. If Dead Guy had picked him up hitchhiking after he ran away from an abusive home or something, then cajoled him into sex, that would feel different to me. I don't think the situation rises to the level of needs to register as a sex offender, to me, that dilutes the idea of a registry. But maybe I'm just bias because I knew the guy, he was nice, and he paid a high price for being an opportunistic idiot. This was all about 30 years ago, btw, and it also felt like he was a victim of homophobia. Also, no one thought he needed to go to a women's prison for his safety, although apparently he was in quite a bit of danger.
I highly doubt they're still putting every drunk who pisses in a bush on the sex offender registry. I've heard of a handful of young men who got on it because they were 18 year old high school students and had consensual sex with their 17 year old girlfriend or whatever. But most states have drafted "Romeo&Juliet laws" to prevent innocent dudes from getting arrested for casual sex with a peer who was just a year or two younger
There are different levels of sex offenders, 1-3. While I think men who expose themselves to non-consenting women and children are scum (as just one example of a low-level sex offense), I think it's a little OTT to let them die during a hurricane or whatnot. But they definitely should not be housed with the people they like to harass and visually assault.
Peeping and/or indecent exposure is often the first step toward more serious offenses. I've had the unfortunate experience of dealing with two incidents like this and kept track of the offenders over the years. Both creeps escalated to more serious sex crimes.
I'm aware of that, which is why I'm glad the registry exists and why they should only have access to male-only adult shelters.

Really? Not trying to sound snarky or flippant here, but I honestly feel like it would be a silver lining if a hurricane happened to kill every single subway flasher in town. Why would it be worth expending energy or risking anybody else's safety to help them?
I get where you're coming from, I'd have no objections if I lived in a country that holds public executions for rapists. And some lifelong perv who exposes himself to women regularly has no value to me either.
But it's just a basic sign of respect for human life to not turn away men from a male-only emergency shelter. And the sex offender list doesn't differentiate between the drug-addicted serial offender and a 60 year old man who did something stupid in his 20s.
There were multiple recorded rapes and sexual assaults in the huge makeshift shelters after Hurricane Katrina. Hell, there multiple recorded rapes and sexual assaults at Woodstock II. Women in confined spaces from which they cannot escape.
"Why stop there? All sex offenders should be banned from all shelters also. I’ve got a bill for this,” she wrote on X in response to a post about keeping men out of women’s shelters.
I'm cool with this. Let convicted rapists tango with the hurricanes
McBride is the first openly transgender lawmaker elected to the House of Representatives.
"Openly transgender". As if Thomas Jefferson or Teddy Roosevelt may have been closeted transsexuals or something. 🤣
Oh boy, your Thomas Jefferson line reminded me of an old tumblr meme from when Hamilton was really popular - some people DID trans Jefferson! Allegedly he was a TIF, and had a Miku binder 😂
Sure, a TIF fathered several children. I guess gendies really don't know how babies are made. Washington had no children of his own, he'd make way more sense as a fan fiction TIF.
They saw a man who cheated on his wife and fathered six children with a woman that he owned as property, and said "finally, someone who represents me!"
Lmao you’re right, I don’t remember anyone transing Washington tho 😂 They really must be so clueless about biology
I was on Tumblr when all the theater kids were transing the founding fathers to create Hamilton OCs. That was a wild time!
I wonder if they stopped because the Hamilton fad ended. Or if they stopped because they realized that the founding fathers were real dudes who held slaves 🤣
If I’m remembering correctly, it was mostly the slave thing LOL
Such a shame that those slaves ruined their trans Thomas Jefferson head-canon 😭
If you can think it, there is anime fanfic of it somewhere on the internet 🙃
Wanna bet TRAs wll say this law is transphobic and made to target trans people in particular? 😂
I'm sure they will. They always tell on themselves
The first day she made news for the house bill on sex based use of congressional restrooms I looked at her legislation history and it overwhelmingly was pro-woman with the exception of supporting abortion limits (she's in the middle ground on abortion with a 16 or 20 week limit and exceptions for rape and life of mother, if I recall correctly). She supported over the counter access for contraception.
I don't agree with Republicans because they've become just as unrecognizable as representation of the people as Democrats with the added revulsion of support of Trump - but I so, so appreciate this woman's pro-woman, pro-child safeguarding stance. It is such a breath of fresh air that it brings me deep sadness. It shouldn't be so rare.
She's like, what Rush Limbaugh would have called a liberal feminazi two decades ago.
She is also pro gay marriage
God, you're right. At this point I don't even care what letter is next to the name of any person who will be woman first like Mace.
