The other side of erasing women
I read recently that due to anti-"DEI" initiatives from the Trump administration, certain words are being flagged in grant proposals. Whether or not you use these words in a proposal can determine whether or not you receive funding for your research.
Among the words being flagged are the words "woman", "women", "female", etc., meaning that researchers have to remove these words from their grants in order for them to be processed properly. Trying to study breast cancer? It might be pretty hard to get a grant for that since that research is dependent on use of those words.
You're not allowed to use "women" or "female" because it's not inclusive enough. You're not allowed to use "women" or "female" because it's too inclusive. These are two sides of the same coin, erasing women just the same.
