RantHRT shortage
I take HRT because I had a hysterectomy and double oophorectomy when I was under 40. If I don’t replace the estrogen my body can no longer produce, I’m at increased risk for bone loss and early-onset dementia.
The day I’ve been dreading is finally here. Last week, my pharmacy informed that the patch is out of stock and they will contact me when they get more. Today, they informed me that they’re reaching out to my doctor for an alternate prescription because they can’t get more. From what I can tell, the shortage is part supply chain issues, part increased demand. Gen X is the smallest generation, so it’s not like there’s a sudden flood of menopausal women. There is a flood of AGP men who want to play with their own boobs though.
Cool cool, let me just suffer so that men can take hormones their bodies don’t need. I am so angry right now.
I screenshot some reddit comments a few weeks ago where some TIMs were complaining about how their menopausal moms could get HRT to "help make them feel better" but they couldn't get it. It made me hate them even more. No sympathy for even their own mothers.
I recall when PhilosophyTube came out (and by came out I mean 'made his AGP public') and complained about how Old Cis Women (the WORST demographic, don'tyaknow) can just GET HRT while poor men like him have to ask for a prescription for these unnecessary wrong-sex hormones that will be actively damaging his health.
I was never un-peaked but this really did add yet another peak to the mountain range.
And that’s not even true! Too many doctors won’t prescribe HRT for natural menopause because conventional wisdom vacillates on the benefits v. risks. Gee, if only women’s health care research was fully funded and functional.
It reminds me of how eggs were both good and bad for your health at one point.
Yeah my cousin went into menopause in just her late 30s and tried to get estrogen and was told that the risks weren’t worth it when she’d need to stop taking it at some point anyhow and basically just said to suffer through it naturally.
This is the innate misogyny of our medical system. Men with low testosterone can walk into "men's health" clinics and get hrt after basic lab work. Some clinics don't even do the blood work.
Women are expected to just... suffer.
It being untrue was one of the most aggravating things about it, exactly!! They don't just hand out HRT to women going through menopause, from what I gather there are all kinds of hoops to jump through
It was PhilosophyTube so it was most likely his classic case of 'I know this isn't true, but all those brocialists who love me so much won't have a clue, because I'm so much smarter than them'. Absolute bad-faith grifter.
On the plus side, his face, body and outfits these days are absolutely hilarious to look at and have given me many a laugh aloud, so I guess we get something out of him making a public fool of himself for his fetish.
This!! I decided to go off mine since I am hitting the age where the risk of stroke etc massively goes up with HRT and my doctor was really happy. He is older and leans towards the "but breast cancer risk!" position plus stroke etc. I know some clinicians have a different view but to deal with them I would need specialist referral and it would cost a packet. I figure I can take care of my dementia and bone health risks with other methods.
It's so hard to know what's best.
Providers I've seen are even reluctant to prescribe vaginal estrogen because of the slight possibility of systemic absorption leading to cancer, heart disease, etc. But if you don't even have a vagina? Take all you want!

Like, this dude actively said he doesn’t even feel gender dysphoria. My man is not going to kill himself because he can’t stand the sight of his masculine face in the mirror (even if he did, get in line and go private like every other person with body dysmorphia who wants a nose job or BBL).
