RantTIMs in tech
Posted December 9, 2022 by Tulip in GenderCritical

I just need to vent a bit. It's not easy to be interested in technical subjects as a woman. It seems to be rare for girls to get encouragement and support to pursue STEM fields. A lot of women get into tech at an older age than men, who get the push and social acceptance from a young age.

So I just came across this tech TIM, who was semi-passing on a screen (the jaw gave him away a bit, so I looked it up). He played a clip of his "past" where he got into trouble for hacking, and his past self was imagined as this very beautiful teenage girl. When in reality, he was a male nerd who transitioned as an adult.

He was super egotistical, and very openly talked about his relationship with a woman in a way that just is off for women. Like, he never faced the sexism, belittlement and lesbophobia that women face, and now he's just parading himself around as a "woman" in tech. He can be buddy buddy with straight men, because he is one.

Many of the woman-attracted women I've known have had intense trauma around the attraction towards other women, because they grew up as girls and had to deal lesbophobia when we are most vulnerable. Then there's these TIMs who go around appropriating womanhood and lesbianism, and equating themselves with a struggle they have no idea about. I frigging hope I don't have to encounter these guys in an IRL professional setting, that would be too much.

It looked gross(from the scenes and shots I've seen), I remember the og and I remember enjoying it but I really fucking hate Japanese culture of pedophilia and hentai shots everywhere. The classic walking in on each other naked, peeping up her skirt, sexualization of ranma in his female form. Just fucks sake. No hopes.

That shit was especially rife in 80s anime. I recently finished the OG Dragonball and while I enjoyed there was some pretty tasteless ecchi shit in it, especially the old man character roshi, he was rapey as fuck. Also the fact that the 13yo girl character chichi was so scantily clad was very off putting, it's a shame cuz she's cute.

OG Dragonball was some messed up shit, the pedophilia was off the charts.

TheDirtyYumejoJuly 19, 2024

It's a shame, because besides the trashy fanservice I really enjoyed it, I found the plot and most of the characters charming (especially kid goku he's so goddamn cute), it blows z outta the water imo. But I guess that's what happens when most 80s manga authors were very unabashed about their completely pornified view of women and girls. I've just accepted that 97% of animanga have at least one straight moid fanservice moment in them. It sucks but it's just a bitter pill I have to swallow, as I've liked anime and animated stuff in general long long before I became mostly radfem

OMG Roshi was the reason I couldn't tolerate DragonBall and never wanted to watch DragonBall Z. Roshi's behavior in DragonBall is especially appalling because it's very much a children's show. And they're normalizing and making a joke out of an old man sexually harassing/threatening an underage girl. Its sooooo gross and creepy that this was a whole ass trope in the 80s and 90s and so many people thought nothing of it

pennygadgetJuly 18, 2024

Yeah, the pervy tropes are hard to tolerate (especially now that I'm older). I really hope that Happosai will be either toned down or eliminated completely from the reboot. But, sadly, its unlikely that they'll get rid of him even though his character was objectively not funny and pretty much worthless to the story

TheDirtyYumejoJuly 19, 2024

You could get rid of most pervy characters and fanservice shit in all anime besides hentai and none of them would change drastically, it's all unnecessary sexually objectifying garbage. If hell exists there is a special place in it for Go Nagai (the fuckwad who made that shit an anime/manga staple)

FeminaJuly 23, 2024

Do you have more info about Go Nagai? I only know about him from watching Devilman Crybaby from Netflix since I heard people saying it was good and inspired a lot of Animanga...

TheDirtyYumejoJuly 23, 2024

I know he was most famous for devilman and cutie honey, which is considered the first "girl does sexy transformation and wears clothes clearly meant to get men hard" anime/manga. He also wrote this manga which could be considered the first harem manga but I forget the name of it, but it had some caveman looking character. Fucking scumbag, why he's still alive is beyond me

FeminaJuly 26, 2024

Do you have an article about him? I first saw his name in the opening of Devilman Crybaby which is a remake of the original Devilman created to celebrate 50 years of Go Nagai's career apparently...

I saw the news this morning and it made me sad lol. I loved Ranma 1/2 so so much as a child and it’s 100% going to be ruined, transed and pornified by TIPs.

I don’t think I’ll watch it, it would be impossible not to think about the broader context happening now.

pennygadgetJuly 18, 2024

My sister has most of the original series on DVD. We'll have to schedule a watch party if this reboot ruins it

OnlyHumanJuly 18, 2024(Edited July 18, 2024)

Also, the dub will probably suck because an English localization company won't have the guts to fully mock the humor of Ranma looking/sounding ridiculous while in girl form because he doesn't know how women behave

The sub will also probably suck because an English localization company won't have the guts to fully mock the humor of Ranma looking/sounding ridiculous while in girl form because he doesn't know how women behave

RadicalPajamasJuly 18, 2024

Aw hell. I had the entire manga collection as a kid, Akane and Shampoo were my favorites. While there's a part of me that's thrilled it's getting new animation, I am dreading the new fandom that will rise from it. Puriteens, TIPS, and TRAs are undoubtedly going to get their hooks into it.

pennygadgetJuly 18, 2024

I'm scared to ask. What's a "puriteen"? I'm assuming it refers to the Tumblr brats who endlessly whine about how all shows are problematic because they don't feature an entire cast of trans, queer, fat, disabled POCs?

RadicalPajamasJuly 18, 2024

Yeah essentially. The online definition has it leaning more toward teenagers nowadays being sex negative, but in my experience it's more about policing behavior overall.

[Deleted]July 18, 2024

Talking shit about teens that don't want sexualization and porn shit everywhere. It's pathetic, they're pedos and the teens aren't falling for it so ofc they have to villainize them.

pegasusknightJuly 18, 2024(Edited July 22, 2024)

I liked that show growing up, too. Funny how time has made this show so controversial and political. It was just a silly cartoon…

OneStarWolfJuly 18, 2024(Edited July 18, 2024)

This was an early childhood favorite of mine ❤️❤️ Absolutely adore Ranma 1/2. And yes, the TIMs are 100% already talking about how this show was their “egg cracking” and how ranma is secretly trans 🙄 They’re all so stupid and misogynistic, the point of the show completely goes over the head in favor of their male sexual fetishism.

Btw the original is easily accessible! All 7 original seasons are on Hulu right now! Unfortunately they don’t seem to have the movies or OVAs. I always liked watching this series in English as it was one of the very few animes that had a really good English voice cast for the time period. But I’ll definitely have to watch this new one in Japanese because the English translators will probably do something ridiculous like put a TIM for female ranma or purposefully mistranslate jokes for their cult ideology.

pennygadgetJuly 18, 2024

I loved the old dub, too. Though I was sad when the woman who played male-Ranma got replaced by a man who had a much deeper voice. He was a good actor. But the first VA was more convincing as a surly teenage boy

And I will be very sad if they pull a stunt like having a TIM play both male and female Ranma. They’ll insist that a trans person MUST play Ranma even though the ENTIRE JOKE is that this curse is forced upon him and he spends half the series looking for a cure

OneStarWolfJuly 18, 2024

Yep I remember the voice change, around season 5 I think it was. Very sad. That 2nd VA went on to voice Inuyasha though and does a decent enough job.

HalfMentalAlchemistJuly 18, 2024

They got most of the original Japanese cast to return, which is nice.

HareJuly 18, 2024

I love Rabma 1/2, it was the first manga I bought. I try to stay away from anime circles online so I should be able to enjoy it.
